So I had a 2005 crf250 sitting in the garage apart for almost a year and a half. I'm now home for 5 days before I leave again. I finally got the cylinder I needed to put it all back together.
It was a nightmare because so much time had past, some little bolts were all over. Almost 3 times I thought I would have to wait till the morning to buy a bolt, then find it
I got it all back together late last night. I kicked it over, heard it start then shut it right down. Then went to sleep.
In the morning, I went to take it for a ride. No start, kicked my leg off. Tried a "carb clean" quicky with the carb in the frame. No go. Then took the carb out and cleaned it. No go.
Checked for spark, had it. Timing was spot on. Jetting 42 p and a 174 m. Two turns out on the f screw. Man I hate when I cant find out why something will not start!
I said F it Im going to check the valve clearance. In takes were good. I did a up and down wiggle on the ex. side and it felt good. I've felt alot of these crfs. Left was good. Right was ZEROed out! Looked almost like the shim was gone.
It was! The keeper were never totally in I guess. Then I found the shim and and one keeper sitting in the head.
Everything looked good. I was really lucky I shut it down so fast. I was able to get the keepers in with a socket and quick pressure with out having to pull the head!
How lucky am I?!?
I cant wait to ride it. Porting by me, hot cam, new crank, cylinder and oem piston (had a high comp wiseco but Im going to sell it so I put an oem in) and fmf full pipe.
