Anybody ever cut and welded a driveshaft? Like from a Blaster or VXR?

I've got like 6 blaster shafts in perfect condition that I want to cut down to make into superjet shafts.

Not really . . . just giving you blaster riders a little ha ha.

I think I've got 2 VXR shafts that I'd like to shorten.

Anybody done this or know a reason that it won't work?

keeping it true would be difficult I think.

you would likely have to use Vee blocks and an indicator and torch and quench to straighten it afterwards.

and depending on what alloy is, and what hardness it needs to be, it migght screw up the heat treating... ( if it is heat treated)

if you could machine a very close fitting sleeve to keep it true, and then weld very carefully to that it might work.

a bit off topic here, but can a driveshaft that is out of spec be straitened, or are you just aksing for trouble by attempting it?

you need an indexing head and an end mill.

there are lots of shops that respline car axles, for shortening them, FORD 9 inch shafts and others.

No idea what it costs, or if they would even mess with it.

a decent machinest in a well equiped shop can do it though.
