Super Jet cutting back plug wires, do the boots unscrew?

Are you able to unscrew stock boots? I was attempting to cut my wires back because I believe my spark is a little weak. Its yellowish instead of a nice blueish white, and Im going thru alot of plugs. I was told I could unscrew the stock boots and reuse them. This seems to be not the case because It just broke off. And it doesnt look like I can screw these type of plugs back in to the wire, they have more of a little barb instead of a straight prong. Do I have to buy aftermarket boots now? Where should I look to get these?

No, you cannot unscrew the stock terminals. It's a rather chitty setup that pokes a spike through the wire.

The stock boots are not screw in and the metal part that fits on to the plug is crimped on to the wire. First thing to do is get some new plug caps then cut off your old ones and fit new. Just for the record I hate the NGK screw on type.
Chris.

I got a set of ngk screw on for the mean time to keep me riding, just put them on. Im going to probably buy the MSD ones next time I order from Blowsion. there was not much actual wire going to the spike on the stock boot. Happy I cut them back, maybe this will solve my issue or at least prevent gettin stuck. Thanks.

Save yourself tons of fouled plugs, down days and headaches and send your coil (Or whole electrical system) to John at Jet Ski Solutions. He will set up your electrical system so its bullet proof, or at minimum he will replace your coil wires with a heavier duty set up and the ends will be soldiered on. His prices are very reasonable. Do it, you won't regret it.

My "bulletproof jss" ebox wasnt bulletproof at all... Grounds broke off on the stator and the ebwox leaked bad... Turned it into a salt farm... You could replace the wires in your coil in about 30mins a and for under 20 dollars in materials. My last one i used taylor tinned copper 8.5mm wires and it wireless great. Stock wires have about 6fat stands of write that break. That Taylor quite had about 30 tiny stands. Really flexible

stock kawi boots for the win!

pull em and cut back wires whenever you need to. I usually do it a few times a season. I can feel when the ski starts to break up.

I end up replacing a coil every two years or so cause the wires get too short. I need to start re-wiring them.

That's unfortunate Chris, I'm not familiar with your situation so I can't comment. Still I'll bet if you ask around, you'll get 10 to 1 good reviews on Johns work. Here's my ebox I received from him almost 4 yrs ago. I ride 100% salt water an average of 3 times a week so that's 600+ rides with zero problems. The only maintenance I do is put dielectric grease on all the connections.

Here it is 4 yrs later, not as pretty, but still going strong

I am planning on sending my ebox to JSS this winter. Im riding the ski how it is right now and doing mods this winter. Riding is so fun I hate to have the ski down in the summer. I really like how JSS can put a bilge connection directly to the ebox, I dont like so many eyelet connections at the battery, more space for corrision. Thanks for all the replys.

Bruceski, this all stems from the other thread I had up about spark plugs with deposits, you were right on the the weak spark. Took me to see how another ski had a nice clean white/blue spark to realize that my spark did seem weak. Also I felt a good power loss last ride, just didnt want to rev like it used to. Thanks.

John does nice work.
Someone with a decent soldering & crimping skill can saltwater-proof their electrical system for about $125 including a new coil, terminals, boots, and new gasket.

There are only two good options:

1. OEM SXR coil + MSD terminal & boot kit. This is the same coil that the SJ uses, but cheaper. Comes without terminals and boots though

2. JSS coil from Jetmaniac

The MSD boots are great as is the MSD wire , one thing though you need to get the MSD crimper to get the full benefit of the MSD wires and boots.
