ok im 16, this is my 1st stand up jetski i got last summer and this is gunna be my 1st attempt at painting a jetski i am going to paint my kawasaki 1992 550sx conversion ski it has 650 in it so now you know the ski and for painting this is what i came up with for a design on photo edit haha yea it wasn't easy but i think i did alright but i am painting this jetski to match my polaris predator 500 Dale Earnheart Jr. eddition quad. Im going to by the same sticker's that are on my quad and put them on the jetski and then jel coat over it so it never peals up i am still debating on what color turf to put on the ski i would like to put white but i think if my hands are greasy or if i step into mud and get on the jetski that it will stain the turf. so i am open to any ideas for my build also i want to cut my tray walls down to a round shape almost like the sxr i can fiberglass but i am no pro does anyone know if this will be hard or if it will weakin the walls? i am open for any suggestion's or tip's.

these are some question's i have: what glue should i use to hydro-turf the rubrails?
What kind of paint should i use?
What is the cheapest internet site to get parts off of?(and yes i know probably ebay)
What all do i have to do to shorten the handpole 2"?
where can i relocate my fire exstinguisher to?
ok i have only seen picture's but they are flat gas caps that are flush with the hull i cant find them but where can you get them?
will a performance exhaust fit my 550sx conversion?

Ok and these are part's i need if you have them or know where i can get them cheap let me know haha i am only 16 so i dont have the best paying job in the world so money will be a little tight but o well here are the parts i need:

top loader intake grate.
after market air intake.
0* bars
hull brace's
nose brace
bilige pump w/ and all the nic nacs to hook it up
shortend handpole "if cheap"
foot hold's
foot straps "yes i am doing both"
3 cooling pisser's
flat gas cap that goes flush with hull if not billet aluminum gas cap chrome/black
perfomance exhaust "also if cheap and if it fit's"

Yeah nascar is not my thing either, but I think you've got a good plan, Remeber to take your time, its all in the prep work!!! It will be cool for you Nascar guys.... Just not my cup of tea

I won't comment on Nascar.

You can cut the ski to shape it, here's a thread that shows some involved fiberglass work.

The best advice I can give you, ride that ski and get comfortable on it. After a season, you'll want a newer, better performing ski (Superjet, SXR) Save your money to buy and build that ski.

haha ok i dont actualy like nascar to much it is ok but im not going to give up a day to watch some car's drive in a circle...but i got the quad about 2 month's ago and i like the look of it and i do like dale earnheart jr. he is just a good all around racer and at the time of buying this quad i was trying to figure out what color to paint my jetski and then after owning the quad for a little bit i came up with the idea to make my jetski match my new quad...i wanted to do something that i have never seen done before with a quad and a jetski so i figured i would be the 1st.

thanks for your the link sj/xpbri that will help that will help also i have thought about not doing this project and saving the money for a sxr but i would like to keep this ski as a extra and for friends that want to ride with me so i figure i will just do it for now and make it a sick 550sx conversion ski........plus i have a car i am going to sell or trade next winter for my next jetski upgrade : ]

use dap weldwood contact cement, let dry on both parts completely and hen stick, or if you get HT use their stuff.

For paint it all depends, i have seen some decent rattle can jobs and u dont wanna spend alot this job. Otherwise if u got a booth and gun, just find a color have a shop mix that and your clear.

For a 550 ebay def best site for parts, but hot products catalog has a lot, blowsion, for epoxies uscomposites, and motor work well the guys on here.

For the pole i never did a js pole, but cut a junk out don low, rivet and or epoxy some sort of bracing around the pole.

Get a small extinguisher and strap to the gas tank, make sure it wont come loose tho..u must be getting footholds then?

I use to only see the flat caps on ebay, umi might have made some, think of billet companies out there.

I would think a 650 exhaust would fit the ski, Im pretty sure a blue west coast pipe fits in there.

thanks for the info. daupjetskier and yes i am going to do foot holds i have a size 14 foot so a lil extra room in the tray will also help and so i can have some sub fun haha


Jfp3- thanks for the pic i never thought of putting a budweiser sticker on it but now i think im going to and yea i know he is moving to number 88 but i cant fit another 8 on my quad and i want to make these match so im just going to put a single 8 on the jetski.

I have had allot of 550's. EHHH. Rattle can that ski ride it until it explodes then invest in a newer ski. My 2 cents

i thought of doing that does anyone have a picture of a ski that has been rattle can painted and then glossed over to still give it a gloss look?

you may want to invest in these they will help on stabilizing the ski and also in cornering.
