The only thing wrong with it was worn wrist pins. It was pretty bad. All bearings were good though. A little damage to the cylinders, no biggie I think.

It's at the clinic for a rebuild. Was considering what other motor options. That php 898 would be money...

Ran almost 14 gallons of oil at 40:1, so lets say 500 gallons, or $2k worth of gas. 150-200 hours. Lesson learned, rebuild your :):):):).

With my two spendier motors I've had, I tore them down at the end of each season and sent it off to the builder to inspect. For my income, they were too expensive to not do that.

(Granted, I don't know how long it took you to go through those 500 gallons)

that all looks normal to me. i got a few of those laying around here. even if you would have went thru it when the motor mounts broke, there was no way you would have predicted the HOT RODS rod snapping in half. thats just catastrophic failure of the weak link in the chain. i'm not a fan of hot rods ...................... i was once told by an old guru, to have your rods X-rayed before they were ever used, to insure they had no flaws. its looking more and more like good advice!

I did the same to an xscream 865 last year. If you dont change the wrist pin bearings they grenade and kill the small end of the rod, snapping it in half.

Mine was a brand new OEM crank with about 1 season of heavy riding on it. Not as many hours as you.

It's fixable for sure. Just need somebody to go over that cylinder base gasket surface well and make sure its true. Plus new sleeve obviously.

Nice. I know a fair amount of people that this has happened to, so I don't feel so alone. Wish my rear cylinder would have blown instead of my front. Save me a starter at least.

hot rods give up the ghost long before the wrist pin bearings wear out in many cases... its no secret at this point.they dont even manufacture cast rods anymore they had so many problems with them

Derrick Jr at the clinic looked at it and said it wasn't due to water ingestion. At the time of it happening, I wasn't doing anything that would have allowed water into the motor. People have been saying my pistons look brand new. The only thing I do is use redline 40:1. That's it...

I've seen hot rod failures all the way back from the lt250r / trx250r / banshee days.
It's sad to say, its common and a known issue with hot rods

Anytime I rebuild an engine its always with oem rods.. if I cant get oem, its vesrah rods. (of course this isnt always an option)

Snapped a pic of the fix on my cylinder.
