Anything less than .005” in a jet ski is risky business, personally I wouldn’t be worried about .006 clearance in a fresh straight bore. Tight clearance in the washing machine environment inside a jet ski is a good way to wipe out a motor. Water takes up the clearance and smears the piston against the bore. Running it loose is safer. Obviously a bore wears some but most people don’t realize most of the high clearance is from a worn out piston. New pistons will usually tighten a motor back up with a fresh hone. My two cents... don’t bore anything without pistons in hand, measured with proper equipment by someone that knows how to measure it and then add .005-.007, measuring with proper equipment. You won’t notice any performance loss in a loose bore but you will be pissed if you smear a new set of pistons trying to gain that tenth of a tenth of a tenth with low clearance.
