How wide does a sj carrier need to be for the bed of a truck?

chine to chine it is 16" but to the top of your rail that the ski sits on need to be 13 inches dead on. I use 2 2x4s mounted to the sides of a 2x12 and it fits perfect

Just looking to know how wide to cut the wood for the cross piece... So for a 2x4 on each side would make it roughly 14" for the middle piece of wood?

Im working on the ski right now so it not sitting flat in the rails is why it looks a bit "off" in the pictures

That worked perfectly... Thank you. I used 2 2x6s with a 4x4 between them in a couple places

cool, glad it worked out, I am planning on putting pvc or somthing on the top of them so it slides better and easier on the bottom paint.
