Do Not Use Usps To Ship Overseas!!!!!

I had sold 2 things on this forum (UMI and a Pump) to a guy in Australia (Pearco). They were shipped out on the 30th of Jan. I was instructed to send the items "Priority Mail International" by the postal worker at my local post office. Big Mistake! After two weeks and no sign of the items being delivered, in the 6-10 days like I was told, I stopped at the post office. I learned that once the items reach Australia, the Australian Postal Service takes over and the USPS has no control. So after I freaked out on the post office for not explaining to me about how P.M.I. worked, ( I know I should have asked more questions before I shipped) I was told that I would have to wait 30 days before I could have the lost items investigated. Now, by this time Pearco has filed a claim on PayPal (which I would have done too) for his money back! So I am now out the money from the sale plus they can't find my packages! Luckily I put insurance on everything but who knows how long that will take.

Moral of the story; Don't use the United States Postal Service for anything but a letter!

I've had the same happen to me with a set of cylinders i sold to waxhead, many people dont know it but you CANT track shippments to australia via USPS, its one of the few countries that is like this, i didnt know this when i shipped the first time, however not too long ago i shipped out a carb to a guy in australia and the dude at the desk actually told me that this time around, thank god the carb got there just fine....

i feel your pain, it sucks when your out parts and money because of something that is totally out of your control!!! good luck with everything!

And how else would someone ship overseas? UPS and DHL along with all the other carriers I have tried want to charge you huge amounts for overseas(such as 100 dollar charge for paperwork with UPS). If I were u I would give it a few more days..I have had items take 3 weks to get places overseas and the buyers were aware that it could take that long. However I have never had items just fail to show up.

I sold many items ( bike parts and gear ) over seas and shipped USPS with no issues.

I used UPS to shipe a set of forks to spain and it took 5 1/2 wks.

now bare in mind when shipping parcels to other countries, they have to go through customs so that could slow down delivery.

Same here, never a problem shipping USPS overseas. I had a guy question me once so I simply scanned the recipt that clearly showed where I had paid to ship to his city and country. He was more patient then.

I ship stuff USPS to Germany all the time to family and friends over there
USUALLY ships OK, but one box took almost 2 months to get there!:chairfall:
No explanation, no idea why.

Well I am in canada and prefer US post to UPS or any other carrier. The reason is the brokerage fees. Sometimes a 200$ item cost me an extra 80$ and sometimes it is 10$. I know it is a formula based on weight, size, and there are some taxes too, but ******** it just never makes any sense....

I thought I would be safe too. My shipping costs were a lot cheaper too!
When I went to the post office try to get some info they were a little on the rude side. It was like they could care less. They said they can't do anything until 30 days have passed. After the 30 days I have to wait another 23 business days for the international agent to contact me. I'm sure people have good and bad stories about the USPS, but I know I won't use them again!

I've never had anything go missing with USPS...ever.

Sometimes it takes a litte while (always takes longer than the claimed amount of days) but it always turns up.

I always ask for tracking just so I know when it has reached Australia.

Another thing...the bigger the item, the longer it takes. I know this sounds a little silly, but I've seen delays of up to a week or longer with things that are twice the size of say a box used to package a head, or twin carbs. Be patient, it'll show.

I've had the same experience as Hydro, one late shiping that was sent "surface". That took 2½ months, the latest shipment from Jetski Solutions took 4 days! Always using USPS, no hick-ups!

Relax. I've been shipping random stuff over-seas for over ten years now, and only ONCE has it taken a long time. Never lost.

If you don't want to use USPS, your options are limited to spending BIG HUGE F'N bucks with the other carriers.

I have shipped tons of stuff over seas using USPS with no problems. Other carriers have not been so good and cost a ton more. Although everytime I ship something to France it seems they are never happy.
