Super Jet Do you all use underpad?

So I have decided that I am going to get the 615 holds. But do you all think I should put underpad on when returfing, if so what thickness. I dont think I have ever riden a ski with underpad so Im not quite sure how it feels.

I have had underpading the times I have turfed. I wouldn't ride with out it. Just helps with when you are riding on your knees and when landing. Do you jump wakes or waves at all?

i used the 9 mm hydroturf padding in my 615s 2 layers on top one on the bottom i would have gone thicker looking back but it is easier to shape two thin pieces than one thick one.

I'm a cheapo. I use the the pads for gym equipment as my underpad. The gray ones that look like puzzle pieces.

I'm in the middle of turfing now...

Wow you guys are spending some bucks on padding. Go to a fabric store and get closed cell foam, it's cheap and local. Comes in a variety of thicknesses.

The local fabric store doesn't support event after event for us every single season, so there's that. I don't mind spending a little more for that support.

funny you say that.......especially with an ad in your sig representing yourself as a "vendor" for the sport

Ill let you figure out the irony

l can appreciate your "cheapness",but even the foam you get from a professional upholstery shop will keep and hold water. And the density is still not there after one riding a season.

And l want support! (old guy here)

No offense but If we all lived by that rule there wouldn't be as many people riding and the sport is already shrinking...

Should I replace my McMaster-Carr bolts, fuel line, home made limiting rope and other items that make my ski run the way I want because it didn't support the sport? No, I'd rather ride...

There are tons of build threads on this site where people encourage each others craftiness and create some pretty bomb skis.

I just shared my alternative to under-padding and it turning into me not being a team player because I'm not buying it from an "official" event sponsor and I find that to be a little offensive. I don't care where you buy your stuff that's your choice, but please don't belittle others that are creative. Thanks

You can do whatever you want - I was speaking for myself only. I don't mind paying a little extra to ensure we continue to have vendors to sell product and support events.

I've been there when I needed to scrounge money and make do with whatever I could just to ride. In the past few years I've gotten to enjoy rider community events a whole lot more. Being on the organizing end a few times, I can tell you that hardly anything happens without sponsor support. I am very grateful for those sponsors and I will do what I can to support them.

Lastly, I am sorry you feel belittled - but I, for the life of me, cannot figure out what in my two sentences was belittling to you.

PS: For what it's worth, I have used the blue Walmart camping mats and the interlocking exercise equipment mats in the past for padding. They soaked up water and were not nearly as good as the stuff HT sells.
