does a type 4 need a flxible area???

does a type 4 pipe need a flexible joint where the silicone coupler goes? would it be possible to have an aluminum 2 piece clamp that holds the two sections together. maybe withe some high temp silicone sealant on the seams and where it fits to the 2 parts of the pipe. doesn't the riva make a pipe that bolts solid at that joint? i could fairly easily machine a nice clamp at work that would make it a fixed joint.

I don't think it would be a good idea with a dry pipe, it's made of a lot thinner material than the riva wet pipe that mounts solid.
