Does anyone have a Dupont Imron color guide/book?

Looking for an Imron polyurethane paint color book or reference guide. I hear the colors are a bit limited, but that you can't go wrong with the paint so I want to scope out what colors are available.

Also, where in god's name do you buy this stuff?

imron is killer stuff.oem kawi paint on early 550's optic red and arctic white.
talk to a paint supply place, they may sell it to you.imron has a new line with more solids.expensive as hell but geez.

Yeah I've now read a few places that the stuff has something like a 20% chance of giving you permanent induced asthma if breathed in even through a normal respirator. So I'm re-thinking my approach. It still seems like the cheapest solution to pay a paint shop to spray it for me instead of buying base color + clear normal paints and spraying myself.

With this Imron stuff, on an epoxy coated Superfreak, do you only need a primer after sanding to lay the single stage down?

i know a guy in the chicago area that paints for a body shop... lmk if you're interested, he might be down to make a little side cash...

i'm a ppg guy(own a body shop).. anything i need painted to last and be durable i shoot with delfleet.. it's single stage 2k so all you need is the color and the hardener... i've painted 4wheeler frames with it and it holds up well.. never shot a ski with it..

as far as your question about primer, i'm of no help.. i'm not at all familiar with the line... normally if you shoot it with epoxy primer you can just shoot paint right over it(this is how i did my sj)..

Hey Aytee, who's your guy? I found a fiberglass guy about 45 mins SW of town that will spray for $150 if I bring in the Imron materials. I also found this chart, it looks like I should really get to a paint dealer and see the actual Dupont provided chips cause some of these apparently look a lot different in actual paint.

BTW, how many quarts might do the job if I want to paint my Freak top and sides (leaving a majority of the underside the original finish)?

While I have no experience with imron, I have one ski painted with sikkens water borne base coat and urethane clear my families body shop did, and it has held up absolutely awesome, and is very easy to maintain. I also sprayed my sc project with nason budget line urethane base coat, and cheap spi urethane clear, and it has held up pretty nice, it does get small swirls/fine scratches in the paint easier, but a quick coat of wax takes care of that.

urethane based products are very easy to work with, My sc was the first time painting anything big, and I got a decent result. Got a few runs and sags in the clear, but I was far to lazy to correct them.

Glad to hear you were able to lay this stuff down with very few problems. I still think I am going to have a shop spray it for me though, I read through some of the safety stuff on Imron and polyurethanes in general and they're pretty much deadly is the conclusion. A few guys have died from repeated use without the proper forced air, full mask, full hepa and carbon filter systems.

So I found a place where I can order this Imron Marine grade paint online, but I still for the life of me cannot find a color book to reference the colors. Not even locally. I called all my paint shops around and none of them source Imron so they don't have books.

Any paint shop owners on here I could convince to share a book with me? I could pay for shipping both ways here and back.

Why Imron?

I painted a few skis with Dupont NASON series, believe Yamaslut did too. Worked really well, Its a urethane Single Stage. This series is geared towards dump trucks and such, but plenty of colors.

Mainly cause I want a sweet metallic finish and they have the "Effects" line of Imron marine paint with it in the single stage which keeps it easy for my paint illiterate self.

I think I just found a distributor who is going to send me these color chips though, so I may, just maybe, am set for now.

of you have Oreilleys with the paint Center, go look, the NASON series had Metallics. Keep in mind, Single Stage is less steps than a Base Clear. But honestly, it is harder to lay down. I buggered up a few attempts and had to let cure and then sand all back down.... Last coat you have to go really slow to get a good wet look. You can still come back and wetsand and polish, I preferred to try and get a good wet look on that last coat. If you are going to shoot yourself.

I was going to try to shoot it myself, but I know I'll mess it up. I found a guy locally who said he'll spray it for me for $150 if I do all the prep.

I used single stage white imron(industral line) on both our freaks, I did go over the epoxy primer with algrip primer and sand to fill most of the pinholes in the finish. I'm pretty sure I could have just sanded the std epoxy primer and applied the imron directly over it. Really happy with the imron, it's hard as hell, I've dropped stuff on the hood that I swore would have chipped it, and ended up with no damage at all. Colors are limited somewhat in the single stage system.

Nice dude. Yeah I am wondering myself if I can just sand down the epoxy finish on the Freak and then spray directly over it. Tem seems to think it is OK, my only concern is that the black epoxy finish on the hull might dampen the final color if I don't use an intermediate primer. Though that's weight and work I would be adding to the mix, when I bet the paint would turn out OK going over black.

It's the algrip 545 epoxy primer, it's a 2 part marine primer, avail in white or gray I think, wet sands nicely, much easier than the epoxy primer That comes on the freaks.
