Hope you all having a great summer. I am new to the forum, wanted to say "Hi" and of course ask a question ..you know for good measure.
Last year I got gifted with an abandoned 2006 yamaha superjet thats been sitting in the bush since 2008 and the enthusiast that I am, I decided to return it to its old glory and ride it.
It took me one year to get to where it is right now and so far I am happy with how it turned out. New paint new graphics, new turf, installed footholds, It have a refurbished engine from SBT, new hooker impeler 10/16 , solas 12 vane pump, d cut ride plate, msd CDI set at 8000rpm, msd Ignition coil, wires etc., ....... and brand new dual aftermarket
38mm Mikuni carburetors that are kicking me in the but so hard I can feel it in my throat. But enough with the foreplay.
What I would like to double and triple check with you guys is the following:
The carburetors: They came with 2.0 needle and seat and the pop off set to like 28psi. I understand they have to be set up with 1.5 N/S and 130 Main , 70 pilot jet ,pop off 38-42 psi- Is that correct or can I leave the 2.0 Needle and seat and just change jets to 130/70 and adjust the pop off to 38-42psi?
Vacuum pulse: Since there is no slave carburetor, Does each one of them need its own vacuum pulse from the engine or can I continue with the factory set up of 1 vacuum tap with a "T" for each carburetor pump? (I would rather not drill and tap another vacuum in the engine since its all installed but I will do it if that's the correct way)
Fuel delivery: The first time I had routed the fuel delivery as follow : Tank, fuel selector, fuel filter, PTO carb fuel pump in, then PTO carb return out to MAG Carburetor fuel pump in, and from MAG Carburetor return to tank. Later I found out that this is wrong and work only on the Factory carburetor set up with a slave carburetor and that may explain why it was not running good. Flat spots, bogging etc.
I have read here that the correct set up should be each carburetor should have its own fuel and vacuum delivery, and its own return. Could that be achieved by splicing a "T" in the main fuel line or should I run 2 separate deliveries from the tank. Same for the return? 2 different returns or spliced "T" in the existing return line.
I apologize for the lengthy post, I am sure you guys answered these questions in one form or another, but I am trying to learn, get educated about these crafts and get riding. Living on an Island I have no other options but to tap into your knowledge and ask the question.
