SXR E.V.H. or djkorn my pole

new 2011 red and black sxr. thinking of copying edward van halen and djkorn by putting black and white stripes randomly up and around the steering riser pole that is currently factory red. can you use a good almost like electrical tape, or will that just fall off? Your advise and experience is greatly appreciated.

Boat striping tape. Something similar to this
I used it for applying a line on each side of my pole, where the fiberglass was exposed after peeling off the stickers. It has been over a year and still running strong. There are different sizes too. I think it is primarily just a vinyl tape. Hope this helps.
