Its easy - if using Hydro Turf be patient, use a heat gun and follow the directions on the contact cement you choose. You can stretch the turf in all directions with heat to make up for your mistakes. I have super glue for any areas that try to pop up over time.
little seen trick for turfing (sim. used by counter top installers), but it applies here; a piece of thin plastic (4mil) between your two contact cemented surfaces, slide it out, as you need.
Turfing for the first time is a character building experience LOL. Especially turfing footholds.
I'd recommend experimenting turfing something besides your ski to get a feel of how turf reacts to heat and just how turfing is in general.
I turfed my fire extinguisher holder first, and that definitely helped my ski turn out better.
