East Coast Engine Builders??

Hey,

Who do yaw recommend for engine builders/dealers, preferably on the east coast? I'm looking at purchasing my first real motor for my new Carbon XFR. My top choices right now are the TPE 1105 and ET 1107 but I am certainly willing to consider others especially if they are in stock.

I had looked at them but I wasn't sure that they made anything in the 1100cc range and up. I'll definitely give them a call though.
I rode a PHP 1015 that was no joke. Felt like it had the power of a 1200. Was running total loss and all the fixing.

What kind of package are you going to run?

Lets see:

I would like to keep it a pump gas friendly setup that will be used 60% flat water and 40% surf/boat chasing.

Hull: Carbon XFR

Ignition: Zeeltronics TL, which I already have and am running.

Exhaust: RRP Laydown Pipe is my top choice right now. But depending on when i get the motor i might initially run my current B-Pipe setup, while i save up for the exhaust.

Carbs/Intake: Depend on the motor, but most likely whatever the Engine Builder recommends.

Pump: Will start off with the OEM 155 I'm currently running with the end goal of moving to a Setback 155 mag pump.

Trim: Will start off with my current Thrust setup, but more than likely moving to a Raptor Trim eventually.

TPE, PHP, DASA all make great motors. Jr. is in Atlanta and knows the TPE. He had one of the First 964's as his own personal motor. And it hit harder than many much larger motors I have been on. As far as your pipe, go with the PowerFactor Waterbox, the RRP box lets water backflow to much. Friend just got ride of a ski with it and caused nothing but headaches.

I guess its really a favorites game, all the good guys are in business because they've put out good products. How consistent across customers and reliable they are is something different all together. I'll give another vote for doing business with Paul Lehr @Jr. His experience, knowledge of skis, and how to make one run is on top. More importantly, you can rely on him before, during, and after the deal.

I still really don't think you need that 1100 man or want it. You bought a cross over hull, don't go with a "freestyle" motor IMO. 964 or 1021 TPE will flip that thing all day on the flat back to back to back but still be tolerable in some waves. My 964 is dialed in, if you wanna ride it again or see what it can do now that I have some time on it lmk. Remember mines is a heavy glass hull too.

Also, don't stick with the bpipe. I've seen that choice cripple to many peoples "big motor" builds. Your going to be leaving a lot of power on the table.

I will definitely be hitting up Paul! He was great to deal with when i got my Zeel from him.

As far as the 1100, you very well might be right. Maybe the 1021 would be a better option. Definitely something to consider. I'm deff down to come up there and ride sometime now that i have mine running well. It will be nice to get away from all the jellies in the bay right now. Just let me know when.

I have no intention of sticking with the B-Pipe, at least not long term. If i was able to get the motor this summer i might initially run it though just until i can get the lay down pipe over the winter.

Now they are going thru some things but he had cases and said he could get started on an 1100 for me right away.

Yea thats more what I was talking about, that's good to know though.

So what made you decide to go with an 1100? Thats the biggest thing holding me up right now. Given how much any of these motors cost, I don't plan on buying another any time soon. And I don't want to end up being in a position where I want more power. But several people have cautioned me that an 1100 might be more power than I want, and I have to take that into consideration, especially since I havent ridden anything that powerful before.

I’m a big guy and currently on an xfr with dasa 950ss, rrp pipe and zeel. On a 148 setback. I really have great power now but with being 250lbs a little more power won’t hurt. Skiinyman has that 8mil 950 in a t1 with rrp pipe on an enhancer and it has gobbs of power. You can really use the water injection in the pipe to mellow the bottom for a perfect combo for surf riding. Very multi use setup with a few simple tweaks.

We have had really great results with dasa’s Over the past 10 years so I’m a little biased. If I were to pick something besides a dasa to play with I would be calling php.
