The build of my Q8 with completely stock SXR driveline is nearly done.

It is being built as a small surf fun boat that I can also thrash around and hit boat wakes and do some flatwater freestyle on.

The engine im running is from my old Stock Class SXR.

850CC
ADVENT INGNITION
Apart from that all stock.

Running stock pump with skat prop (i've forgotten what pitch prop i had in my race boat however it worked well for a mix of surf riding and racing so should do pretty good for freeride with the lighter hull).

550 Tank
Superjet Waterbox.

We had some issue's with the hull itself turning up with nothing other than hull and hood but Eric has sorted most of that out.

Building the ski is definately not a rookie build. not much lines up and most of it needs to be re drilled/aligned.

My buddy is doing the build for me and he thought he would add his own little bit of flare to the turf job.

The Kawasaki Elec box allows alot of room to access the battery and work around behind the engine.

The inserts for the pump bolts were a size larger than what factory uses so the pump had to have the bolt holes drilled out to work.

The pole brackets were off by a fair bit causing the pole to sit about 2 inches to the left at the top so on bracket had to be removed and reinstalled.

Carbon Hull.. Eric doesn't make a glass version.

I have no idea on the weight. I dont really care about it but from my guess about 80 - 90lb.

The motor is ready to bolt up but the bed plate hits the battery box so the couplers wont come together.

The entire SXR Driveline ripped out and waiting to go into the boat. (Calm before the storm).

Turfing the ski was Guy's favourite job. Seemless job on the bumpers.

Little mishap with sikaflexing the pump area.

Pump was a bit of a pain to align. Exhaust outlet sealed around edges to stop leaking.

We mounted the Ebox to the left side of the hull a bit to help balance out the battery and also make it easier for access.

Superjet waterbox in and turfed. Looks factory.

Bedplate fitted with 9000 shims supplied by EME to get the engine to sit right.

RRP Pole cut down approx 3" for Q8 hull.

Coupler gap because of bedplate hitting battery tray.

Grinding to bedplate.

550 Tank getting lines put in.

Exhaust tube to rear of the ski was mounted with 1mm clearance to the side of the hull.. the boys had fun putting the exhaust hose on.

Rode the ski yesterday afternoon and it rides suprisingly well with where the engine sits and with the bigger fuel tank in it.

Some cooling/fuel lines were just thrown in there to get it running but are getting sorted today to look a little more sano.

One of the hooks for the tank straps ripped off of the hull (pulling the epoxy with it).

Other than that the boat is COMPLETE and ready for a surf ride tomorrow morning.

The graphics on the hull will be on for one weekend and then Joel from FiveThreeDesigns Australia will be let loose to make this thing look wicked sick.

Also anyone considering building a freeride/freestyle rec boat I would highley recommend the 800 Power plant..

Alot of people say they dont make as much power down low but thats comparing a 701 in a lighter superjet hull to the 800 in a tug boat.

The power in this ski is very broad from the very bottom to the very top (which is the way I like my boats). and makes more power than any stock superjet ive ridden with an ignition.

On another note there is no 'Wok Riding' with this thing.. I can ride it flat out in a bit of chop no worries. It was definatley faster than my SXR hull which did about 49-50mph.

Yep, the SXR motor crushes the SJ 701 in the same weight hull. (unless you put a couple extra mods on the 701)

Eric supplies a 2 inch drive shaft extension with the ski.

You can see it on the 3rd picture from the end below your post. (back side of the coupler)

Rode the ski for the first time on saturday.. apart from a snapped positive lead it ran amazing.

Our ride to the surf is probably 15 minutes and with my feet forward i can cruise and ride around fine.. I can ride it flat out and chase down boats and it is fast at WOT!.

With the engine far foward I can carve waves and it hooks into the face really well.

Ballsed up and tried my first flip landing the first one perfectly was pretty pumped about that.

Barrel rolls are too easy as well..

I was taking it pretty easy because it was a hood off situation to get the ski started again.

The hull felt strong all day and i cant wait to ride again next weekend.

I think you have that backwards, last time i spoke with eric he told me he does not make a carbon hull because its not the best material to use.

I agree with "weston" though, the Q8 is actually a mixture of Fiber Glass + Carbon....

In other words, the hull is made out of Fiber glass and reinforced using Carbon!!
