The driveshaft isn't turning. Not sure what the problem is as ive got very little experience working with engines. anyone have any idea?

Can you turn the coupler by hand? Sounds like you don't have enough charge on your battery.

I put a vice grips on it but it won't budge. I'll try another battery tomorrow

Take the spark plugs out and try to turn it over.

No but the compression will make it more difficult to turn by hand.

What is the back story? Was it properly winterized? Sunk at some point?

It wasn't winterised last year,I was moving house and just had it stored in a shed for a year. Never sunk amd always ran in fresh water.

Is there a stick jammed in your pump? Rats/squirrels nest?

Well. It's the damn impeller. It's scraping against the edge of the housing and getting jammed. That's what's stopping the engine from turning.
I fitted a new one at the end of last year. But haven't had it in the water since. So I never tested it. Do I need to grind a channel into the housing for it? Or is it just my poopy installation? I know it's supposed to be tight. But obviously not this tight.

It was your poor pump alignment most likely. Don't grind a groove for it as you suggested. Redo that impeller install.

As far as I can remember it did spin freely. But it was last year I installed it so I can't be sure. I have the pump housing off so ill check the alignment first and see if that does it.

With the pump removed, you should be able to spin the drive shaft by hand. If the prop is barely scraping on the wear ring it is usually okay (barely meaning, you hear the scraping but it doesn't make the prop any harder to turn). If you can't turn it by hand, I wouldn't go through the trouble of trying to align the pump just yet. I'd get a different wear ring and start over.

Do you ride fresh or salt water? Galvanic corrosion can start between the stainless steel wear ring and its alloy housing (on a stock one). This distorts the wear ring/liner and forces it onto the impeller. Much more common on salt water 'ski's.

Well that makes sense. The guy I bought it off only used it in salt water. And the old impeller was well worn when I removed it. Cheers

you could file the prop edges a little just enough for it not to binde up!
