External pop-off adjuster

Has anyone ever used/tried one of these adjustable metering plate covers? It sounds like a good idea for a quick(er) initial pop-off setting. Once set, remove the carb then install the right parts to give the same pop-off? Or is this another "magic wand" carb mod?

Yes I have used them and have a few laying around here, they seem to work rather well if you set them up right.Ther is a special spring that comes with them and It really makes setting up pop off pressures on Dual carbs a breeze.

Yes you leave them on,all you do to adjust the popoff is loosen the 10mm nut and turn the allen screw in or out,I am running a set on my Kawi 550 reed engine.

I think ADA made them actually,I used them on an HX race boat that I set up a few years back, and Western Power Sports had some on clearance a last year and I bought few then.

I had a buddy using one on his single carb 750 and it worked fine.

Can you check your popoff pressure with it on?

Thats what I was wondering....I think it's recommended to remove the metering plate when adjusting pop-off. (maybe because the test air has to go through the return jet that's built in the carb? What about carbs with external pumps?).

The only problem I see with leaving them on is that the "rubber" rear exhaust hose already rubs the side cover plates. The adjusting screws/nuts would want to wear two holes in it.

Thes plates are made to be installed and left installed. The way it works is you have two springs, the spring that that is already in the carb and an additional spring that the adjuster rides against. You turn the adjuster either in or out to put more or less tension on the spring which changes the popoff pressure, the ones I have were all for kehin carbs although I did modify one to fit a Mikuni, they made them for both.

how you can make that working with dual carb setup? If you cannot measure the pop off pressure with gauge?

Why exactly can't you measure the pop off? Do you know something that I don't know?
You do pop off just like on any other carb, inject through the inlet line and block off the return line.

surely if you are removing carbs to check pop off you can remove cover as well its not that much harder

Actually this is more of a fine tuning thing Wax,you set up the pop off close to where you want it then dial it in with the adjustment screws, think of it as an adjustable midrange mixture screw like on an old 44 bn carb.
