Super Jet Factory B pipe install. touching hull.

Location
OH
Just reinforced the sides of my hull. and installing factory B pipe. The motor is properly aligned, and the chamber is going to touch/rub the side of the hull. When I reinforced the sides, I ground off those vertical ribs (as wamilton directed me to), but the chamber still touches hull. Is this a big issue? What are some fixes? Thanks!

Yes, this is a big issue!! vibrating pipes can rub holes in both hulls and the pipe itself. I still have the ribs in my SJ and one of the ribs touches my pipe. My father and I just stick a piece of hydroturf (same stuff as tray) between the pipe and rib. The pipe never gets hot enough to melt the hydroturf, but we check frequently anyway. have had this remedy working for 4th straight year now, same piece of hydroturf, no damage to pipe or hull. Cheap and effective!

Pulled my pipe last night to paint and install the BK twisters and found the same problem but I'm also rubbin on the motor mount. Can I just grind a little off the mount? Should I try to stick a small piece of turf on it?

I also thought I saw somewhere that the coupler from the pipe to the water box can be cut down a little to help installing the limited pipe. 3/4"-1" sound right? Acetone OK to clean the coupler or can it damage it?

Thanks,

A guy I know had this happen on the ski I bought from him, and he said he called up Factory Pipe and a lady told him to knock a small dent into the chamber where it was making contact. So, my chamber has a small dent but it seems to have good power and rides fine. I don't know if this is a good thing to do or not, but I thought I would share.

Dent it with a hammer. Run some turf, and lift the water box with turf or rubber to get it to clear. Use one or all three of these methods.

Every hull and set of motor mounts is different. I have had some hulls that didn't rub and others that rubbed horribly.

That small of a dent will usually have no noticeable affect on performance. If you look and your chamber, where it is closest to the fuel tank {convergent cone} it is odd looking, like it is kinda caved in, for tank relief. It is highly un-likley that FP did this for performance, they did it to fit the stock tank. If they were building a pipe for performance only, the convergent cone would be more symmetrical. Any small dent you put in you tank is minor compared to the design shapes that had to be incorporated to get the pipe to kinda fit in a stock superjet.

Thanks,

hot soapy water is the best for your coupler, or hot soapy water right after the acetone.

Chamber only rotates a tiny bit. Had it in the best position I could get it in.

Put a hammer and dolly on the spots that were hitting tonight. Cut the coupler 3/4". Powder coat next week then wait for summer.

Shift the water box as far as you can to the opposing side. Or you'll get this...

X2 same thing happened to me almost went all the way through,

I'm glad I found mine at least at this point! I think my hull could maybe have taken a few more weeks of it, but my limited chamber is paper thin on the wear spots now. I'm hoping JB Weld can strengthen that up for me.
