Fair Prices in Midwest (Early 90's SN)

I'm in the market to pick up an early 90's SJ.. I've got a background in motocross and BMX, and i'm looking for a toy to compliment the boat. I'm mechanically inclined, so small issues and maintenance is no issue. I want a reliable ski that I can just hop on and ride (with proper maintenance of course). I've got a few options currently on local craigslist and before I pulled the trigger, I wanted to make sure that I understand what is fair, and what these ski's are going for in the Midwest.

Ski #1 http://kokomo.craigslist.org/boa/5213730118.html
- This ski looks to be ready to ride and pretty well maintained

Ski #2 http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/boa/5171091085.html
- This ski has a broken handlepole. The owner said he had a new one on the way, but the price will go up.

I'm thinking that these skis around worth around $1600 - $1800 and that's what I'm looking to pay. Am I out of my mind?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have a stock 650 for $1200 or a 93 with a 701x in it for$ 1500

You wouldn't happen to be within 250 miles of Indianapolis would you!?

Everything I've seen on the site is in the 1200-1800 range for these skis, but most of those ads are on the coasts where they are more prevalent. I'm just trying to make sure I don't get duped, but don't offer these guys some unfair lowball offer.

He is asking $2500 for the ski, replacement handlepole, and cart. This seems a bit high?
The ad says $2300? If you could get him to toss the replacement pole in thatd be a good deal. Looks like a solid little setup as long as its tuned correctly. Its a no brainer if you are deciding between the 2.

This is the part that makes me weary. He says the ski has not ran on the new parts. This would mean paying someone knowledgeable to get it running correctly before being ridden.

Seems people want 2k these days for a running 650 square. For that price I want all the little goodies like bars, grates, levers, and foot troughs though!

PROP is the most important thing

I ended up purchasing a '95 WB1.. I figured maybe more people in the family would be more comfortable on a 'sit down'.. The thing is crazy fast and very fun.. I payed $1200 for the ski.. It's very clean mechanically. One of the previous owners decided to try their hand at paint... They failed.

Here's some pics for reference.

Where do you usually ride at? I seen it sit on CL was going to look at it but wanted another stand up That first ski for $2k the guy wouldn't budge and I was told it had a milled head and was only at 150psi. The second ski the guy that built it lives on morse so it was built right but it hasn't been tuned.

@Tshaw I picked up the blaster for $1200. It's got a West Coast head (unknown dome size) a Riva Groovy ride plate, and possibly I larger carb. Seems to bevtuned mostly correct. So far I've taken it to a buddies private pond to check it out and took it to Lake Lemon yesterday to stretch its legs. It's so much fun! I plan to ride at Geist, White River, Monroe, Hardy locally, and quite a few trips down to Dale Hollow. Are you somewhat local? Where do you ride if so?

Ya it seemed like a solid deal. Did it actually have 200psi as he claimed? I live about 10 min from Geist. If I go there i usually just take my boat. I ride skis there every once in a while. I ride skis the most on white river (launch in broadripple) weeknights I just go straight from work. It just kinda all depends if it's in the summer I will always choose Monroe but it's over 2 hours each way

@Tshaw .. I checked compression on a cold motor. I left the other plug in each time so as not to overrun the starter. Each cylinder was low 160's. I'm sure ideal conditions would be higher but nowhere near 200psi. The ski feels very strong tho. It was well maintained.
