You can film from shore it just takes a little (OK, a lot) practice. First you need a tripod. Second you need a tripod. A fluid head tripod would be nice but a $25 one is better than nothing.

You will obviously need to zoom in. Use optical zoom. Never use digital zoom. Many consumer camcorders have over 30X zoom so you can get right into the action.

Loosen the knobs on the tripod so you can easily move the camcorder but not so loose it flops around.

When filming I keep both hands on the camcorder/handle. I usually turn the base that hooks to the camcorder so the handle is at about a 45 degree angle to the left. I hold the handle with my left hand and keep my right hand on the right side of the camcorder.

Keep a little tension between your hands. To move let a little pressure off one side and add a little on the other. Keep it smooth and you will like it soooo much better.

One of the tough things is guessing which way a rider is going to turn so you can follow them smoothly. Watch how the rider's head moves around. They hunt around for their salty prey then lock in on it right before they turn. Watch some of the videos on my web site to see how this works.

Get some cheap DVD creation software and go to town. Video editing is not an easy thing to do so be prepared to invest some time. You can use Windows Movie maker to get you started. Please don't use every transition in the software. It's a sign of a total amateur. Use simple fades or straight cuts.

If you upload videos to Youtube make sure that the video you upload is very high quality like 5 mbits bitrate and they are under 2 mins. It might take a long time to upload them but if you don't turn it up they look like crap.

If you want to have higher quality start your own web site. I pay Godaddy $3.99 a month and can put whatever quality I want on my site. There is so much motion in surf riding video it doesn't Youtube very well.

Filming jetskiers is one of the most difficult things to film. First, you deal with the water, second, it is a constant moving target that is very far away. (steady steady hand). Most of my shots come out really shaky. This is why Chris's stuff is so amazing. Crystal clear and very smooth. I am on my 8th camera (mostly due to water or sand damage). Good thing I get them for $30 on ebay.

water is tricky but if you know someone who can fab a waterproof box for you go for it...
