Freestyle Finding race gas

I'm in middle GA and haven't had much luck finding any places that sell race gas. I've checked a couple race fuel sites that sell it and their lists are horribly outdated. I tried calling a speed shop about race fuel and they weren't much help. Not sure how a performance shop for dragsters gets by without knowing a place that sells race fuel but that was my experience...

Any other ideas on where I can find it?

im guessing you have checked local gas stations, i was in Flat Rock, MI on monday and pulled into a random gas station, they had a VP pump at the side

I know most people run 50/50 avgas/pump gas. Will there be any adverse effects to running 100% avgas? I know it's not the same as race fuel but if avgas will produce more power than me buying new domes and running pump fuel, it might be worth the extra effort.

i talked to art about avgas and now im sold. he said you just need to change plugs more often because of the lead build up. he mention to me something about running 66%avgas and 33%pump gas. maybe matt e will chime in. he runs it

I run a 3:2 mix avgas:pump gas.
The only reason to run avgas or avgas mix is to allow higher compression on the cheap. I can get more power out of real race gas with my current compression, but my fuel cost would double.

You guys had to know I would chime in hear........

I ran ALOT of avgas for 2.5 years. Avgas is commonly referred to as N.R.G. (can u guess what that stands for?) lol
Avgas allows you to run high compression and timing numbers without having deto effects that comp and timing normally cause.
As for the power the fuel produces-AVGAS SUCKS BIG BLACK DONKEY DONG!!!!!!!! Ask me how I know!!!!!!!!!! Avgas is cheap-ie 4.00 per gallon in AL.
I now run MS109 mixed 50/50 w/Chevron 93 and have ALOT more power AND I run less compression than before AND I run less timing than before!

My setup on Avgas was 235psi and 35* static
My setup on MS109 and 93 is 200psi and 28* static

The bottom line is you get what you pay for and VP does a fine job of creating Hp that is hidden inside of your motor just begging to be turned loose!

gil what ignition were you running with the 35* static? Would what comp and timing would be safe to run with a basically a stock protec cdi?

If you're getting by successfully with that, I would think I could swing 210psi with straight 100LL avgas as long as I was running the timing conservatively in the upper rpms.

What engine setup are you running? You can't go on just the compression numbers alone.

That being said, I wouldn't run AVGas in anything at 210psi. My setup is a 785, with about 190-195psi and I run almost exclusively AV100LL and I've not had any issues at all with plugs fouling quickly, or any other adverse effects. I also don't see the point in mixing it when pump gas isn't much cheaper.

Cam2 is 6.50 at the pump here in MD.
AV is 4.10.
Premium is around 3.00

MSD t/l that allows me to retard for the top side of the RPM range. I would not go crazy on timing at all with a CDI mod only! You have to run some type of a/m ignition that allows retard up top to pull that kind of number on the bottom.

NO WOT passes at all and I ran 235psi, .020 squish, and 35* static on straight 100LL Avgas for 2.5 years with no problems at all, and then I saw the light and tried MS109. lol Now I run 200psi, .047 squish, and 28* static and have alot more power.
