Hello,
I finished my trailer project today. you can see part 1 here
http://www.x-h2o.com/index.php?threads/the-more-affordable-trailer-project-pt-1.149393/
We measured out 12.5 inches between the 2x4 to see where we would have to make cuts.
Here we cut out the bottom to have the crossmembers showing so it will be adjustable.
Next step was to mount the brackets for the rails. we used galvanized hardware for this.
We made sure to have the rails stick out a bit in the rear to avoid contact with the metal.
I did not use regular carpet on the 2x4's. I bought it at a marine shop, my cousin has it on his trailer for his boat and it slides easily.
The last part was to paint the trailer with the epoxy paint i bought. But it was only enough for the inside part of the trailer. But it kind of looks cool this way.
I just need to clean up the messy paint on the side rails and it's done.
This trailer cost me a total of around US$875-900. Again i live abroad and everything is more expensive here. so it will probably cost you less. Hope this post helps
