Fire Extinguisher Went BOOM

As the tittle says,a friend with a old stock SN had his fire ext. get loose and flopped around the engine bay till it got pierced.The chemical went everywhere and some (don’t know how much) was ingested by the engine.The engine got choked out and quit.He cleaned it all up and installed new plugs and continued to ride.Thinking it was all good he kept riding till it was time to come in.When he got it loaded on the trailer and tried starting it,nothing,would not start.New plugs installed and she fired right back up again.Took it out the next day,rode it and when he cut it off,it would not start.Again new plugs installed with the same scenario.

Anyone here have this happen?? Or any advise..

I have punctured one inside a building and the powder was a nightmare. I’d suspect it’s suspended in the oil throughout and acting as an abrasive inside the engine, slowly wearing everything, including the lip seals sealing surface on the ends of the crankshaft.... id tear it down and wash everything out including the exhaust and pipe

I used to be a fire extinguisher tech. they either have sodium bicarbonate/salt in them or potassium. probably salt.
just wash the motor out with water, just like if it got sunk and that should get the salt out.

Haha like Harbor said though, I would probably pull it apart but im crazy OCD... That stuff for sure got sucked into the engine and im sure its not doing it any favors... or like Buzzard says flush it with water and treat it like a sunk ski

Just a head's up for anyone with a Square Nose:

1. The fire extinguisher does not go inside the engine compartment. It goes into the black canister attached by the rubber strap at the bow end of the tray which is outside the engine compartment. That is why it says "Fire Extinguisher" on the label on the outside of the engine compartment bulkhead.

2. The tool kit (and anything else you want to and can fit in there) goes into the yellow canister which is strapped to the inside of the hood in the engine compartment.

I could post up a diagram from the service or owner's manual if you would like. Or you can just trust me on this.

(I will outbid brrapperdoodle (although shipping cost could be a problem for me. . .)

All depends on your riding spot and if the water pigs want to harass you or not. For instance my last outing I had the ski on a stand in the water and the ranger complained that my reg sticker was on the wrong side of the registration numbers...

Dam. I didn't even have registration tags on my ski for like 3yrs because they didn't flow with the green wrap job.

Well apparently my local lakes don't enforce anything anymore so I'm not worried. This weekend it was nothing but stupid huge wakeboard boats with surfers doing 10 mph the wrong way, back and forth, one after the other thrashing our skis at the day beach. I even asked one of the rangers and his response was that they would rather have them doing that than having them going slow out in the main channel. I said it must be nice to pick and choose what rules you want to enforce then rode off.

Yes, I have a wakeboard boat and wakeboard and thought I was doing the right thing when we stopped the "power turn" to make everybody happy and now you have the surf idiots.

Small update: The owner had the engine torn down and found residue at the bottom of the cases,the carbs diaphragm had a tear in it (l believe unrelated) with the carb having some residue in it.Cleaned and waiting on a base gasket now.

One of the guys here had the same thing happen, but it wasn’t a stock engine... He said it trashed the engine, and he didn’t keep trying to ride it, either
