first time snowboarding... suggestions?

So tomorrow is my first time hitting the slopes on a snowboard. I have skied once before, like 17 or 18 years ago. I can wake board and skate good so im hoping That I an rely on my experience with doing those to help me out some. So does anybody have any tips before I head out tomorrow? Thanks

its actually similar to stand up jetskis.. leaning into turns.. i found that pointing in the direction i wanted to go and just making my body follow.. going a little faster also helps with balance.. what mtn are you going to?

Take an ibuprofen before and after. =) If you are comfortable on a wake board it will come naturally to you. Stop on your toes and not your heels when you are first starting out. It will save you a bruised tailbone.

So im beat to hell, no where near as easy to pick up on as skiing was. Spent a lot of time on my a $$ and right about the end of the day I figured out riding and carving on my toe side. It was really crowded too so that didnt help . Now im off to ice my crappy old body and munch on some aleve.

I used to be a snow board instructor in high school. Point where you wanna go and keep your weight on your front foot. While pointing, reach out for what your pointing at, keeps the weight on the front foot.

I was doin ok for a while but I cold only turn to my heel side. I was also doing a steep black Diamond portion of one run to get to a flatter area where I could actually ride. In that section I couldn't point the board downhill like I wanted to and thats where I got beat up the most. I did pretty good in some of the tighter stuff and the less steep sections. Would do it again, but I have to figure out how to regulate my speed on the steeper stuff first.

work on the side slip, toe and heel. you can do that down steeper sections where you feel unsafe. then while in a side slip, reach out and point then you can start carving. Sorry its hard to explain behind a keyboard

How is Cataloichee holding up? I worked that mountain for a handfull of years when I was in school no to far away. I haven't been back since 08'

Well im gonna try it again here in a few weeks hopefully I can put some of this information to good use. @ dag the mountain was good. Was my first time there, pretty much all the runs were open. Lifts were crowded, but they said mlk weekend is the busiest weekend of the year. All the snow was pretty much man made and it was 55 degrees yesterday I was way over dressed for the weather. But I gained a lot of knowledge yesterday and from reading this so I plan to put it to use.

Got my daughter out for the 1st time 2 weeks ago. She loved it and was doing great for her 1st time.
I was a snowboard instructor about 20years ago and agree with Chad. Keep your knees bent with your weight on your front foot and slide your back foot each way to turn.katesnowboarding.jpg
