Custom/Hybrid Fitment issues, ATP steering and Xmetal pole

I buy a ATP steering system for my Chan. I go to install and I have to open (grind) the hole larger by maybe 1/8" for the center pin of the steering. It attaches via the four smaller, evenly spaced holes.

So I chalk it up to 'Thats Normal' and grind away.

Now the base fits, bolt it in, attach the top of the steering.

Then I go to install the steering stop/ pad support, and it doesn't line up. The steering plate forces the stop to not line up.

I understand that there are no standards for these items (but imagine if there was...) But is this common? What do I do?

Return the steering?

What works?

Gotta change the center of the hole. Offset to make room for the steering stop. If it's too late for that option you may have to grind the steer plate. Or order the other billet end from xscream that fits everyone else's steering system.

Yeah if I grind the big hole, the 4 threaded holes won't line up.

I didn't know another plate exists. Awesome.

So it's the pole that's "wrong" not the steering?

Don't feel bad about the steering stop not fitting....it's common. I run a Blowsion plate and had to grind a notch on the bottom of the stop post to clear. A few riders I talked to at the grayland open had to do the same thing or make the notch in their turn plates deeper. They were running different plates than I was. Seems like it fits perfect if running xmw steering and that's pretty much it. I don't blame them, it just sucks to take a grinder to new parts as with anything.

In addition to the post interfering with the plate, it appears the post isn't tall enough to get the chin pad over the steering assembly. I was told this is a common issue with the ATP steering, so I guess I can't complain.

I guess it's time to get creative. I've already taken the grinder to the pole assembly once (I agree, the figment for the pin diameter isn't a big deal) I might as well grind the steering stop too...
