There are two brass posts in there which are shorted by a washer (the button) to complete the circuit. On my ski, one post was corroded to be about 3mm shorter than the other. I used a dremel and shortened the other post to match, but then had to cut the spring guide of the button so that the washer thanks could make contact... but a new problem, the button itself doesn't go in far enough to press the internal button all the way down. A few washers inside the rubber button boot fixed that. So it starts and I can ride this weekend, while I wait for my new button
