i have had the machine(s) all along that are/were capable of backflips for years, but mentally i have not been able to wrap my head around the idea up until about a week ago. i finally said enough is enough and to man up!

barrel rolls i have no problem with. something about throwing my weight backwards rather then sideways is just "off" to me.

i am getting the height, just not the rotation. once i leave the wake, i keep looking over my shoulder for the landing and can't get it in my head to stand up straight / look straight backwards.

couple pics and vids:

Squat on take-off.
As soon as you're out of the water:
Stand up
Arch your back
Throw your head back and spot landing , not over your shoulder.
Pull the pole towards you

Roo.....I do the exact same thing you do. I agree with Matt E....its got to be the arching back, and throwing head back thing. Its hard to make your body do it.

Roo, CONGRATZ!!!

You can do pretty much anything you want if you pull hard enough on the take off...im serious!

If u want to put your knees on the hood or do what matt e said that will help too, but that 1200 will flip with a properly timed pull...and you wil freaking SKY!

Glad ur up and rippin'!...looks like fun!:)

The picture says it all. The fetal position sure seems more natural but it takes an arched back to pull it off. Funny that the roll doesn't bother you. I'm the opposite. Keep at it and good luck. BTW, I am still fighting with this too. My motor isnt as strong as yours so my technique has to be spot on. It's not....yet.

Back straight, throw your head back, bars to the chest. If you get the right motions, the backflip will be the easiest trick you can do.
