flip blaster exhaust outlet to out side?

So I opened the back deck on my Blaster last night and removed most of the styrofoam. It looks super easy to flip that exhaust outlet 180 degrees and have it go out the side instead of into the pump cavity. Why don't people do this more often, am I missing something or would the water rushing past it without something like xmw's exhaust outlet cause problems or what?

Yeah I know the only benefit is a cleaner pump area and *possibly* less worries about cavitation but why not?

the other problem with the pump exhaust is jump recovery. It's a good idea to get the exhaust out of there.

Yeah I'm mainly concerned if there are any performance issues by dumping the exhaust out the side where it has to push through the added pressure of all that water to get out? Has anyone tried it? Saw a thread where LBE was talking about it but it sounded like he went with a front exh too...

I like the front exhaust idea better. But, you're right: you could just flip that fitting and move the flange.

If you're going to go through that much work, would there be any reason not to just shoot it on out the back?

The back would seem to be more affected by big tail landings. Also it'd take a little more fanangling to get it back there as opposed to simply flipping it from the pump to the side.

Anyone got experience saying out the back is better than out the side? WCF, XFT, etc all throw their sj exhausts out the side so that makes me think it's okay but I'm just running a simple 701 so if it hurts performance at all, I'd probably notice it more than anyone who's afforded one of those style aftermarket hulls...

I run front exhaust only on my B1. It really helps to get the exhaust out of the pump area. Recovery from big tail landings is much easier. I didn't realize untill after how much that restricted what you can do.
Downside, front exhaust is loud. I run a RN water box, maybe thats it? Sometimes if I do a 180 or slash I get a face full of exhaust but when ridding it is blowing back below the bond line. Mine exits pretty far foreward on the front right.
I will probably be working on my B1 tomorrow (doing a motor swap) and will take some pics.

Cool thanks eddie. I'm thinking just out the side near the back to keep it a little quieter so I can goof in the neighborhood too without the neighbors pitching a fit.

WCF seems to do rear side only and without some flange diverter thing (see how it's flush out the side in this pic) so I guess it's okay or at least worth a shot like Tim said. Worst case, I gotta add a front exhaust or open the deck up again but I doubt it.

You laugh, but I have seen it. I think Mex Rager 03 or 04. Someone ran the exhaust out the fire extinguisher tube.!

Carefull with rear/side mounting. The water pressure may snuff the exhaust a bit in a corner. Just a thought.

OR Would the bernoulli principal actually draw more exhaust out, causing a wild increase in power at speed? :friday:

I don't plan on the outlet being below the waterline during any turns that matter... Anyways I got a lot more procrastinating to do before I get to this point. Thanks guys I'll post up pics and a review of whatever I end up doing. If anyone has actually tried this before, I'd love to hear how it *did* perform, not really how it *might* perform. Otherwise eff it I'll try whatever I'm in the mood for at the moment :439:

what would i need to do to fit a side exit up the front of my blaster? also liking the look of the rear exit. what have you done to block up the original exhaust hole?

For racing I'd run it out the back...but for any serious surf riding running it out the back would further weaken the weakest area on the ski. Unless of course you're going to reglass the transom anyway.

I can't really see a performance benefit of just flipping it out the other side.
