Florida law - Titles & Registration

Hi folks,

I have a question to those of you that are familiar with the laws in the Florida. I've just moved here and I'm not sure how the state handles the sale of jetskis without a title.

I see several posts for some really cheap skis ($500 or less) and they don't have a title.

If I have a ski, I want a title to go with it. They're all offering a bill of sale. With the bill of sale, can I apply for a title in Florida?

What kind of issues am I looking at facing if I purchase one of those skis?



What I'm looking for is a Kawasaki 550 that I can ride for this coming summer and then spend next winter tricking it out so I can learn Freestyle next summer.

The state of florida will not give you a title for a ski without a title unless it came from a state with no titles like georgia.

there are illegal work arounds... registering the ski in a title less state then register it in florida or buy a title from someone that has extra titles (I may or may not know someone)

Yep, Demon said it best, I am passing by georgia next week and will be stopping by the dmv to register a few ski's.

It will take a while but if you want to go the legal route you can apply for a lost title.

ONLY IF YOU ARE THE REGISTERED OWNER!

Otherwise, you have to contact Tallassee and request the address of the REGISTERED OWNER, ask THEM to apply for the replacement title, and hope they are kind enough to just sign it over to you (since they did not sell it to you).

Of course, at that point they have the option to just take the ski back.

BY the way TMETZ, Georgia has a web site you can go to - they even let you print out a temporary paper that makes you legal right away (until they mail you the reg papers).

You are not required to be a resident of Georgia to register skis there - the only requirement is that the SKIS must spend 180 something days in the state.

So if you have a cabin up there or something, where you ride in the summer....


BTW, I'm not sure it is LEGAL to sell a ski in FL without a title.

If thats what you have to do to be legal than so be it. Personally I would just go the shady route. JUST MAKE SURE IT'S NOT STOLEN!!!

I just don't understand how you can drive or own something that doesn't have a title. So I thought that Florida might have some other law about it, or something about vehicles/boats that are greater than 10 years old. I thought there might be a way to get a title for it.

It's easy to lose a title to something you only ride for a few months a year like most people (not us). It's also easy to make payments on your car and forget to contact the owner (who you got the loan from) and tell them your new address after all the crap you wen through to move in the first place. Don't forget FL is hurricane central...you can lose titles in hurricanes, fires, etc.

I'm not saying everyone is legit but what I am saying is that not everyone that doesn't have a title is a fraud. When you go to buy/look you have to make sure (in writing on the bill of sale) that they will assist you in obtaining a replacement title.
