Surfriding Florida surf vs. North Carolina surf

I am really thinking about making the move to NC, and was wondering if the surf up there is any different than here in FL.

Not sure if this question is dumb because I know someone will say that "surf is surf" but I have never seen Carolina surf so any input would be great. Thanks

I know the outer banks in NC has some bad ass surf when the conditions are right. The problem is you can't ride jet skis in the surf at a lot of places. If I were you I would check into that first and see where you can ride in the surf zone.

Come surf Jax...

There's so much to understanding surf...swell direction, periods, wind history(area), topography etc...

The bottom has a huge factor and beach breaks like Florida can have major changes each year after our hurricane season

I learned how to surf in Cali and then moved back to Tampa...it was rough as I only saw good surf maybe a few weeks out of the year unless a hurricane was spinning in the gulf...

Huguenot in Jax has it all...

Flat and Surf...you can board surf there...camp...fish...kayak...treasure hunt...it rocks

I used to hate Jax 12 years ago but I love it now.

seems like nc surf isnt really much different than fl surf atleast what ive seen...fairly mild for the most part with some very nice surf on some days and worse on others... where in nc are you thinking of moving to??

If you could ride Hatteras it would be the best place on the East coast, it is a swell magnet , just look at the way it sticks out there in the line of fire of any somewhat West ward swell direction. I used to surf there some in the Fall and it can get big and hollow .

we all wish we could ride hatteras..back in the day we would go to buxton and put in from the beach and just ride out further than the surfers would be out,Its epic there.Nc obx basically outlawed all pwc on the ocean side by making it illegal to launch and retrive from the beach and closing the inlets to pwc, Oregon inlet use to be alot of fun also...obx nc sucks for jetskis now... the lower part of nc mainland where they do the freeman park freeride has pretty good surf.

Its going to be REALLY hard to beat hugo in jax though, not many have a clue how sweet that spot is cause they dont want drive outa their back yard ride spot in fl...Its great for camping riding, enjoying life in general. Super sick waves in the mouth of the shallow inlet when everywhere else is dead flat. no marine cops buggin you, super steep inlet banks,no draggin skis in sand there, not to mention hot chics all over the place gettin on with the party every summer weekend.. It rivals matanzas as a total experience, more of a pretty place to hang out with the fam for the day..Ive ridden almost every spot on the east coast and hugo is by far my personal fav.

I work nuclear power plants and nc is not the only option.
SC is a good option also as there are a good amount of plants there and myrtle beach.

Anywhere on the Carolina coast is an option.

I was born and raised on the water in FL so being without it is not an option unless I really had to.

So the question is where to move to in the Carolinas?

Like Jloria said there is a lot to know, When I lived in SC, Florida always got better surf. But one thing is when FL was flat Carolina had surf. Has to do with the direction of the coast line etc...

and X2 on Hugo in JAX being a awesome spot! There is also an awesome crew of riders there!

:):):):)in hatteras is the :):):):) for surfing. Jet skis not so much. I have rode there before in the off season with no problems. But we never saw a warden so no clue what they would have said.

Yea, but definitely saw a couple sharks. Never got back on a ski so quick in my life!

Thankful for the Va Beach dolphin population! lol
