Dont really know hinestly. I know there's a thread In the tech area for an install. Googles your new BFF man. Sure you can figure it out. Seems easier than footholds. Emphasis on SEEMS.

615 footholds are $65 There's a guy over on pwc today that sells them. I installed the, on my kawi 650 and they're high quality. Installation takes some effort but is not really that hard. I've done three sets of footholds and can help guide you if you decide to go that route.

I only use one of the footholds myself, as I ride surf stance mostly. You can use the stock extinguisher if you have a squarenose.

Foothold install is pretty hard to screw up. Ive only ever done 615 holds like mentioned above, but youd have to be horrible with a cutting tool to mess them up. You pretty much cut a hole, clear the hole out so they fit, then glue and screw em in, then run a piece of fiberglass over the edge. Very easy, and can be done in a matter of hours.

Straps can be installed a number of ways also. You can glue down an insert, screw them into the tray, or a combination of the two. Id probably glue an insert down myself.

I can do everything you mentioned no problem without foothlds. I never feel like im going to come out of the tray. If you throw your body right, and use inertia, you will stay planted in the tray. Just Practice. Footholds help when you mess up so you stay attached to the ski. Thats the way I look at them. Ive never ridden surf tho, but Im pretty sure Id be scared of footholds jumping big surf, but again, ive never done it.

just install footholds or straps. the answer is you need them to do any decent tricks without flying out out of the tray.

they aren't that expensive if you do them yourself. they were one of this first major things I did by myself to a ski

I would just be afraid of messing the fiberglassing and then laying the turf over it. how much does it cost to install?

are they thick enough to hold your feet in?
They are about 1" thick and 2" high, they help your feet locked in. If you want them in more secure than go to footholds. Plus another benefit of the foothold is , they will widen your tray on your superjet which will give you better balance. Like the guys say aventually you will want the footholds. Cost? Footholds about $70, also you will have to returf your tray about $60 for a sheet you will need probably two of them or get a superjet precut sheet. You will need some glass resin and fabric, you can pick that up at HOme depot for about $25. Some screws or rivets and epoxy. So you could try the wedges for mean time, and if you have the time in the winter and the coin, step up to footholds. And if you want to go even further then get the BOB footholds, they are adjustable and pretty awesome. It's all about time and money.

I have wedges in my SN right now and used them quite a bit along with the fire extinguisher in front. Ski is going in this weekend for footholds and new turf.

You gain more room in your tray with the holds as well. Which is always a plus.

Use google to search it installs and I am sure there are some you tube vids as well. Just take your time and don't rush the process, they will come out great!

When in doubt, Throttle-out.
I got the Waterdawgkustomz footholds and love them.

I am 6' 1'' with men's size 11 feet and I have no issues with getting my feet to stay in them... They are a little more difficult to install, but definitely worth it. After installing them, I will never have another ski without footholds.

If you have the cash, I would suggest installing the B.O.B. Footholds. They are fully adjustable and have a great end-product look...

Here is a link to my build if you are looking for the in-between steps for installing the footholds...

Yes, you need them. For the first couple of years I had a SJ without footholds. They seemed like a pain to install and when I would read the standard response that they are nice, but not completely necessary I always put it off until later. I believed that you could just press on the sides to keep the ski with your body; it simply is not the case. Stand up straight, put your feet a foot apart and see how much pressure you can exert outwards and keep in mind that is the maximum amount when you are not distracted by cranking a set of bars, hitting the throttle, attempting to time the wake and concentrating on your body position in relation to the ski. At the end of last year I bought a new SJ that had them installed and they make a huge difference. Do you need them? Well, you can ride without them and you can pull off tricks. They are harder to do and you will have a hell of a time lifting the back of the ski with your feet.

I am telling you that they are necessary because I wish I would have believed that three years ago. I would be much further ahead and would have enjoyed myself far more (if that is actually possible.)

I'd be lost without the x
Just do your research on here and go for it. We all were a little hesitant cutting into our ski the first time but it is well worth it and worth learning how to do it.

Don't have someone else do it, do it yourself. Go buy the wamilton foothold and pre cut turf combo they have to make the turf job easier.

Fiberglassing is not tough, just do good prep work and it will be fine. Turfing is the tough part because it has to fit and u want it to look good. But if u screw up it ain't the end of the world. Turf is easy to order and redo.
