Custom/Hybrid Freestyle cone install ???????????????

Want to experiment with different pump cones. Question: Is it possible to change cones without pulling the pump??? I can't get the sucker off through the nozzle, can't get any tools in there. Is there a trick or a tool? Mine is the freestyle cone and it does'nt have the small grooves on the side like the stock one (grooves for a screwdriver)

I just pull the steering nozzle off and use some larger adjustable channel lock pliers to pull it off. Some times you have to wiggle it as you pull, but it will come off.

Even if I pulled the trim and steer nozzle off, there is just not enough space to get channel locks in there, it's a short metal cone so there is no grabing on to it:grumble:. I have to get something in the side of it, in between and then wiggle. Does that make sense?

That might work. Disconect both cables, pull 4 long bolts and the 2 bolts holding it to the hull and that just might expose the cone enough for me to get a screwdriver in there. Right?

If you can get your hand in there push down as hard as you can while twisting. That worked for me.

If it was the stock, long, plastic one, I could. And I tried, but the SOB is short and chubby (story of my life). It won't budge, no way. I even bent a butter knife and tried to wedge it in there, but no dice.

I really tried it, with it all together. I like the option of taking just the nozzle off, lot better than pulling the pump. Thanks guys for your input. And we did it without hearing "there is a thread for this, just search for it" , thanks again! :lmao:

Did mine in about 8 minutes, didn't even take off the steering nozzle ;) I'm 6 foot and have pretty big hands and I can reach in the reduction nozzle and pull it off no problem

And after all that effort, you'll have to ask yourself the question "was it worth it?"

Got the stocker in, if I want to go back to shortie then it should be no problem going through the nozzle. We will see if it ma:brap:kes difference.
