Freestyle Setup Help

I am looking to upgrade my engine in my freestyle ski and I have been going back and forth on what engine to get. I am looking to get a bigger motor and carbs and maybe pipe. As of right now I want to stay Stock Stroke since I will not be competing and want to save the money for other parts.

The engines I have currently looked at are TPE 964, ET 967, DASA, Jetworks, and XScream. Anyone have any advise on what engine I should get. Along with the engine I will also be upgrading my carbs to Dual Mikunai 46's and might upgrade exhaust to PowerFactor. I want a reliable engine that will be able to handle multiple seasons with out a rebuild and also an engine that can throw down 4-6 trick combos. Any advise is greatly appreciated.


My Current Ski:
Hull - Hurricane Bob Gen 3.5 Full Carbon
Engine - Bored out 701 to 781cc
Carbs - Stock Dual Mikunai 38's
Pump - Stock 144mm
Exhaust - B-Pipe
Stock Electronics and Lightened Flywheel

I will also be upgrading my Electronics and Pump after I get my engine all setup. I understand that I wont be able to throw down Multiple Combos with the electronics and pump but I still want an engine that is capable of multi trick combos with all the right parts.

Where are you located at? I have just the set up that you are after. I built mine with the same parameters in mind as you.

-ET967 stock stroke motor pump gas
-Stock mikuni 46’s
-Stock electronics with msd enhancer
-Powerfactor
-Oem 155

It flat out rips with this set up and is reliable as can be. I’m not quite capable of it yet but my buddy can pull 3 trick combos on it. I may upgrade to total loss and race gas this winter but haven’t decided yet since this set up is so dialed and works so good. If your in NorCal let me know and I’d be willing to meet you at the lake and you can try it out.

My vote for stock stroke is TPE 964, 11 ports, nikasil, looped transfers, lighter cast cylinder and WIDE powerband. I rode one before and it pulls very hard right off lowend power. I currently have a TPE1105 and it has improved my riding abilities. HP is addictive, after one season on above you'll be wanting a 10mm motor. Consider it now it's less expensive in the long run.

I wanted power with the reliability of a SS engine. I ended up going with the TPE 1021 (its a TPE 951 +4 mm) and haven't looked back. Its an amazing engine, no regrets on the +4 mm over SS. If you do this make sure you get bigger carbs 46mm+ as a minimum and either a PF or TNT pipe (the b-pipe and smaller carbs will hold this engine back).

Adding Total loss or Zeeltronics, 46's, 155 pump and a laydown pipe to your current setup will make a huge improvement until you figure out which engine to go with.

Can confirm. I have a JM big bore and added a power factor and some random 46's and the difference is huge. It also helps because the same parts can be swapped to bigger motor, spreading the cost out

Ended up pulling the trigger on buying a pump, engine and carbs all at once and all brand new. I ended up going with a ET 967 as my buddy just got an ET and he loves it, and I have ridden a couple ET's and I really like them. For carbs I ended up going with Dual 46mm Mikuni's, don't know the specs yet as I am still in the process of building. And lastly for pump I ended up going with a Torrent 148mm SetBack, don't know prop pitch. Still running stock electronics and a B-Pipe. Those will be my next upgrades, wondering if anyone has any input on which electronics would be best for this setup, and which lay-down pipe would be best for this setup.

I would go with pfp exhaust and a zeel with lightened flywheel and magnets removed.

Pfp for sure, if you call art at et he will dial you in on your set up, he also has a baseline jetting set ups. I can also send you what we are running in mine.
