Front Exhaust Made Quiet

Is it possible? Looking for ideas to utilize dual front exhaust set-up and still maintain a dB level that won't piss everyone off.

I'm about to get started on a square to round conversion and would really like to eliminate the rear exhaust tube and waterbox to outlet tubing, as well.

My initial thought is to flood the crap out of the outlets, but don't think that even this would be enough. :dunno:

I do have a friend who is a very experienced welder and fabricator of custom motorcycle parts. What about a redesigned waterbox? Could something be made like SuperJett's turbo-muff, only bigger/longer/etc. that would be substantially quieter than anything else on the market?

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated. :tomato:

I welded up #0's dual exhaust and he said it was not nearly as loud as he expected, give him a shout maybe he can measure it somehow?

deblaster made one that is 2.5" with a stock box. It's louder than rear but with the big opening the tone is lower and less annoying.

I guess you could do what I did on my X2,I tapped a boss on the pump and dumped an entire coolant line into the exhaust exit at an angle,I also put a diverter on the back to divert the exhaust into the jetstream,it quietened it down to a reasonable level, you heard it at the Smith Lake freeride.I realize you can't divert it into the jetstream but it seems to help to have it come out at an angle instead of coming straight out.

Nick and Robert both tried front exhaust only and neither still run it. I think a larger diameter thru hull than standard front exhaust would help. Nick did a cooling line dump and it did help a bit, but I think the fumes and louder than stock noise are what brought it back to stock. Robert had dual fronts at one point with a custom water box and he too got rid of it.

I actually thought about that and will probably end up doing just that. I'm already running dual cooling, so I'll look at a pump and see where (and if) I could tap it for this.

Nope. I wasn't there.

SORRY.
Good luck with the build. Us Dirty Jerzys like to be loud... :headbang::bigok:

I keep waiting for the Dirty Jerzy X Scream Mouth Trap....... But I think Pat and Chucky realized that some things just cannot be muffled........ After years of R&D they realized that there was not any man made object that would tone down that yap...........

i ran a front only set up and my motor wasn't as peppy as it usually was, i have since switch back to duals and it is a lot better. i think it has a much harder time pushing water forward when your moving forward with the dual setup the water can easily get blown out the back and not have to fight momentum.

but river rat ran a front only set up and i think his worked pretty well.

and for sound, just don't run an x metal box. i love the sound but it could be bad depending on where your riding.

If you go the dedicated water line route, don't just dump it in, spray it in a few inches upstream of the exit. If you can get one, put in a MSD water injection spray nozzle.

I plumbed mine in a few inches before the exit,I also cut angle in the line I put in so the water basically tries to go back toward the engine,my setup has very little back pressure so this wasn't a problem,I also put in a jetworks valve so it would not load up at low speed, its kina funny the faster you go the quieter it gets or at least it seems that way.

The Jetcraft boxes do that as well, they get really quiet at top speed, or maybe I'm just going way faster than the sound and it can't catch me?

My dual front exhaust setup works great with the stock waterbox and it's not too loud even running the system mostly dry. I keep the bottom screw opened about a half turn and use a flow control valve with a 2mm restrictor at the stinger inlet. It has a nice deep tone with 2.5-inch ID tubing going into two 2-inch ID outlets and the exhaust stays completely out of the water most of the time for less restriction. If it wasn't for the smoke rings coming out from under the nose section, it would be real hard to tell where the exhaust noise is coming from.
