getting ready to put on my stock carb set up ( thanks yamaslut)
i know i need to take out the screens in the stock air box, . How many should i take out? any other mods needed to the stocker box that i should do?

also the stock choke still there. is it really worth while to remove it? if so i imagine i realy just need 1 primer line though is that right?

IMO a primer is one of the best cheapest mods for the longevity of your ski and your sanity.
It doesn't take long to remove the choke, and just put the plugs in the freezer for a while before you jam them into the carb.
And most likely, the screws holding the choke plate to the throttle shaft will strip when you try to back them out, so have a small very steady handed grinder ready to go. I even put some thin curved sheetmetal inside the carb while I went at it b/c I didn't want to slip and take a nice chunk outta my carb.

you can use a pair of vise grips to press in the brass fittings. on the barbed fittings just use a small 1/4" socket to protect the barb. also use a rag on the inside of the carb to protect it as well if you use this method.

Use the low pro or a bubble type primer. You will end up breaking the knob off of the regular type if you do anything more that flatwater riding.

I don't run screens at all. Haven't for a year or two with no trouble. In the past every time I had them installed they would get wacked out of place.

I asked a friend of mine what they are in there for and he explained that it was to keep a bird or something from flying down the intake. LMAO! I know they are really there to keep bugs from getting in your carbs.

I don't mean to sound pompass, but if your ski is set up right (as in it's pretty fresh gasket-wise) and you ride it frequently you don't need a primer. Just one less thing to fix when it breaks or remove when you have to pull the motor.

thanks wildman, no offense taken , did not come across as pompass at all
i agree with you, my curiosity is just if there really is any performance gains that are there, i don't have the choke even set up on this ski, and the motor used to run with just a big ole 46 ( no primer)

the new carbs i have have the choke plates still in place and i really don';t feel like pulling them out but if in the name of power it helps then i will.

the screens i think are also to stop back fire flashes from blowing up the ski if i remember right

The bugs thing was a joke. Yes, they are to aid in stopping sparks from blowing up your ski/self/house/family. Still, I haven't had any unwanted explosions yet. I suppose when I do, I'll put them back in. When I did leave some in it was only just one layer - but like I said they would always end up setting caddie wampus.

I have always removed the choke assembly. Performance gains may be questionable, but why risk it for 5 minutes of hassle?
