Fuel Selector Switch Replacement?

Location

Hello everyone. I have a 93 Waveblaster 1 that is mostly stock that I am trying to clean up before this season. It looks like the previous owner rerouted the fuel line to go straight from the reserve to the carb, bypassing the fuel selector assembly entirely. Everything works fine; however, the selector switch does nothing now. I'm assuming at some point the switch failed and this was the workaround, so does anyone have any experience with this type of "mod"? I want to replace my fuel lines but I am curious if I can eliminate the assembly entirely or if I should replace it. I would like to run a primer out through the existing hole for the selector switch if it is not needed. Finally, does anyone know what the component is in the last picture? I couldn't find it on the parts diagram from Yamaha. Thank you!

if you do not want to use the switch junk it entirely. Go from the fuel pickups straight to the carburetor. (If single carb, use the Reserve line, and main feed). You can install a primer where the fuel switch was located.

Awesome thank you for the help! Do I need to plug the "On" port of the fuel tank if I remove the switch?

The water separator is for the tank vent. Its just an empty can with a drain at the bottom. They are good to have as long as you check them. I dont use any fuel selector and I have ran out of gas once (oops).
