Looking for the best carb setup for my ski. Havent been able to talk to Art in detail regarding the engine im getting, i know art has told people to use 48 novis and 48,49 specs... Just want a comparison vs the Riva Powerbomb 48's/DASA 48s? Same thing....

Setup:

Carbon/Kevlar RCW Brawler
ET 967cc SS
MSD Total Loss
PFP Pipe
VF3's & PHP Intake Mani

The feedback you will get is that all of those carbs are good options and you need to go with what your engine builder suggests. Really, youll only get the best feedback from people with the same motor. For example, TPEs mainly suggest Full Specs, while PHP suggests Novis.

From what I have heard, the Dasa carbs are great carbs! They are based off the Riva Powerbombs, but are definitely not the "same" carbs.

I'm not much help, as I've yet to run mine. But I got the dasa 48's to run on my et967. Art told me he has run them and had good results. He sent me the jetting specs he recommended for the dasa's

Sneds has a set of 48 riva power bombs on his 5 mil blaster 920 and novi 48's on his 1100 in his rickter

I don't have a useful opinion for you but I am sure any of them would perform great when tuned in...if budget doesn't matter get what art recommends...can't put a price tag on tuning info from the builder

what is the quality that you look for that makes one carb "better" than another? Throat size? Ease of tuning? Torque curve? Max rpm? Or do certain fuel passage maps suit differnt engine pressures differently? .... How does a builder choose a carb to reccomonend? Familiarity? Location? Dealer Pricing?

Can you even buy Powerbombs new anymore?
Everybody that runs any of them will tell you that they are good (or the best). Truth is they all perform well, doubtful anybody has tried all of them, especially not back to back on the same engine.

I can guarantee there are people that have tried all of those carbs back to back on their motor setup. But some motor setups work better with different carb setups.

I tried novi's and full specs back to back. The funny thing is the novi's ran pretty good one day and not so great the next. But the full specs pulled harder period.

I had specs that did that. I would ride lake ontario mid week and then go north 2 hrs to my cottage where its a higher elevation.. and they did not run so well. Obviously

Im asking what design feature would give one carb an advantage over another?

Flow benching is probably the only way to tell.

I think they all spray in the fuel like this:

There was no elevation change. Full specs can be a little bit of a pain, but once you have them right I won't touch them for a long time.

Yes, flow benching will show how the carbs flow. Booster design goes a long way and also internal circuit changes. But as said above, find out what your builder is most familiar with and run those. Other wise you may be on your own figuring it all out.
