For the last couple of years, I've been thinking about a simpler hood/retention system for my FX. Having sunk my boat a couple times because of the cheezy factory latch, it's past time. The paint was still drying when I tested it at Daytona, and all worked out as planned. It took a little getting used to(the strap) but it's real strong. The cam-over latch pulls from a center point, and equally displaces the load to the front and back attach points.
The weakest part of the system is rated at 500+ lbs useful working load (usually ratings are 50% of the breaking point). I think it's a LOT stronger than factory.
The hood w/retention system=7lbs (using the factory air inlet tubes). I left the factory latch locations in place just in case things didn't work out...right.
