Yea the FX-1 isn't the most stable ski to learn to ride on. However, once you learn to ride it, you'll never want to ride anything else. The FX-1 was my first stand up to learn on and I cant stand riding anything else.

It's fine to learn on. Plenty of power to get you out of the water. Sure you'll learned to ride faster on a SJ or SXR, but the Fx1 skills will make every other standup out there seem easy (well excluding Js440)

I started on a 550 and stood up first thing, but feel soon as i tried to turn. A day or two later i was riding and turning my 550 find. Over the summer i got pretty good at breaking it loose and sliding and jumping but it was just under powered. Bought my fx1 and jumped on it and it felt so different. So much better then my 550, more power, better quality, better ride. Took a half hour to get used to how easily the bars turned compared to my 550 but it was awesome. Since then ive rode a lightly modded square which just felt HUGE and like it had less power then my 550. And ive ridden a RN with a huge 951 seadoo motor and alot of other mods. It had crazy amounts of power but still didnt feel as good as my fx1.

If you take a bit of time with the fx-1 it can be a good first ski. It takes time though. You will spend a lot of time falling into the water. After a short time, your balance will be superb. Then riding any standup will be a breeze.

You could hop on a rn superjet and ride it decent on day 1. The fx-1 would take till day 3 to 5 to do the same on.

The fx-1 is really tough to ride in bigger waves.

I started on the fx-1 this year (first ski ever). I then went on to buy a modded 2001 superjet (deal was too good to pass up).

I love both. The fx-1 is superb for flat water with no waves. The feel of carving it is unparalleled. The superjet is great for more difficult riding situations. It is much easier to ride in waves. The superjet can lean over much farther. It also can power out of sticky situations (due to better hook up from the pump). I will put in the 140mm kawi pump into the fx-1 over winter. That is supposed to make it hook up almost as good as a superjet.

You'll understand what I'm talking about when you start riding.

The fx-1 is great ski. The superjet is the best all around ski though. For calm water nothing compares to the fx-1. Also the fx-1 is so much lighter than the superjet. The fx-1 would probably be a much better freestyle ski since it just jumps out of the water. I'd say my stock (engine wise) fx-1 jumps out of the water much easier than my modded superjet (with prob 30 to 40 more hp than fx-1).

I hope this helps.

i have been riding an fx1 since i was twelve and i love it.... its a tough ski but if you can handle it in choppy water you can ride anything. i probably should have started with an easier ski only because i love a challenge which = fx1. but once you get it nothing compares to the fun and joy you will have. i would say if you have awesome if you dont get it and it will be the love of your life.
