Freestyle Gen2 Bob Dasa 865

3 years ago I bought a 1987 650sx, and my friend bought a 300sx. Its been downhill ever since. Talk about getting addicted over night and spending way too much money!

So about a month ago I took the plunge and just bought a ready to ride ski, and here it is! You probably recognize it, it was for sale on here, and I haven't peeled the previous owners name off it yet.

Here are some stats he told me about it;

BOB Hull - (Wht/Wht, Silver sides, silver bracket, pump shoe, and ride plate)
BOB Pole Bracket
865 DASA motor - 89m
DASA Intake & Delta V-Force 2 reeds
UMI Steering - (ODI grips, JSS Tuff Thrust Steering washer kit)
UMI Finger Throttle
UMI Bars with Crosspad
UMI Bypass Fittings (4)
UMI Bow Eye (2)
OEM Hood Latch / Catch
OEM Waterbox
OEM Gas Tank
OEM Battery Box
OEM Long Exhaust Hose
OEM Motor Mounts (4)
OEM Bed Plates
OEM Electrical Box
OEM Starter
OEM Bendix
AC Racing Handle pole -2 with OEM Chin Pad
AC Racing Breather System
Hydro-Turf Freestyle Kit (Diamond Cut)
Hydro-Turf Shock Pad
Skat Trak Magnum Pump (12 vain, 140mm, set back) (C-75 14/18 Swirl)
EPIC Ignition (Airtime 2 curves)
XScream Trim System - Wave Raider exit
Factory B-Pipe Mod
NOVI Dual 48mm 118 set carbs
Tau Ceti TORNADOS Flame Aresters (2)
WORX - 228 intake grate
NGK Spark Plugs (2)
NGK Caps
3 bolts
2 Fuel Filters
1 brass elbow and T
3/8 hose
3 T fittings
Yamaha Raider Steering Nozzle (62T-51313-02-00)
Cold Fusion Billet Internal Fuel Filler with Billet Cap O Ring
Cold Fusion Coupler Set
Cold Fusion Damper

I put a little push button primer on it, since the carbs had the nipples and they were just open, and I didn't like having to remove the filter to choke it, or dump gas down it to get it to fire when cold. Works great now, and was pretty easy to just remove the extra pisser.

I have a question about the pole pad tho, you'll see in the pictures its missing one of the bolts, because the steering cable hits it. Looks like I can move the bolt for the steering cable in one hole, and then it should clear the pad. What is that going to do to my geometry exactly? Easier/quicker steering but it won't turn as sharp? Just a guess...

Second question, You can also see in the pictures, as I point it out, the pole just barely touches the pole bracket when all the way up, in a hard crash, if I smashed the pole forward, it could probably mess some stuff up. Limiter rope probably a good idea? I haven't decided how I'd attach the rope near the top by the steering...any advice on that?

I'm hoping to take her out this weekend and try it for the first time. My buddy bought Sanoman's Stunt hull with the Dasa 809 stroker, it'll be his first time out too, so it should be interesting!

If you see anything wrong or that needs attention let me know! I'm in way over my head!

Where in WI are you? I'm in LaCrosse.

Put a Pole limit strap on the pole. The limit strap stops the pole from over extending before it hits the stop on the brackets. Pretty easy to make one yourself. You should be able to attach it to under the acorn nut that hold the steering plate stop in place.

Nice ride ! Yea I would run a limit strap , if you get into a situation where you over extend your pole it will get wedged on your stops . Jet maniac or umi are good options for a limit rope kit I will post you up some mount pics later so you can get some ideas. also I have to run my steering cable in roughly the same position on my turn plate , not because it hits , it just ends up there to get my nozzle pointed straight with enough threads to make the nozzle pivot work correctly .it works fine, plenty of throw.enjoy that thing , I bet it's a beast.

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna look into a limiting rope right away, I'm just not real sure where to attach it, everyone seems to do it a little differently.

For you guys in WI with the AM hulls, did you make a HIN tag and attach it to your ski? I don't really feel like drilling holes in the hull...

That was my other thought too...what stickers do I remove to put my registration decals? decisions decisions...

I had a local trophy shop make me some tags, but they never made it on the ski lol.
I was planning on putting one in the engine bay at least.
I run my reg decals on the pole. DK1 can print you some nice stickers that fit on top of the hood & match your color scheme. I'd have him print some new decals with your name on it as well.

I had basically the same motor set up in mine but I had a MSD T/L. That thing is gonna rip hard. Get some Rhass or Colf Fusion motor mounts, looks like stockers in there.

Are the OEM mounts gonna break or whats the story with that?

Does anyone give out horsepower numbers for these aftermarket motors? I'm usually dealing with snowmobiles and that's all anyone talks about is horsepower, but with these ski motors its like a secret or something

It's not a good measure in ski motors. HP = torque x rpm.
Watercraft motors need to make gobs of torque down low in the rpm band, not so important up higher. As a result, HP numbers don't truly represent what the motor will actually do in a ski.

Yeah that's pretty much what I gathered from all my searching.

First question out of everyone's mouth around here is 'how much horsepower'. I'll see what my butt dyno says this weekend

congrats on the nice ski! if your over on the east side your welcome to come out and rip some lake michigan surf with us. We have a few different AM hulls over this way.

I was gonna buy this ski! :p But i'm over here in California so it made it a little bit harder. + I didn't have enough money. Anyways Borto is a really nice guy! Hope you like your new BOB!

well the first ride is complete. Ran perfect, and holy cows this thing has power!

I took it easy at first, just trying to get used to the hull... Its a bit of a challenge to ride, but not too bad. Then I did a few back flops, and a couple side flops. I'm gonna be sore tomorrow!

I think I have a few good pictures, I'll post them up later

Here are a few pictures, nothing crazy...first ride of the year, first ride on a AM hull, and first ride on a ski with a powerful motor haha. There is also my buddies Stunt ski in there

Looks like a fun day! Good to hear to ski ran well. How does your buddy like that Stunt hull?

Props for trying a flip first ride out too!

I tried the powerslide to flip, but I wasn't wearing my wrestling shoes, and I didn't stay in the holds. I need to practice just 'riding' this ski a bit more, then I'll work on some tricks. A few people came out to watch the maiden voyage, and they were giving me so much ****, they threatened to take my man card if I didn't at least try a flip. Feels good to know I have the testicular fortitude to try it though!

My throttle got hard and sluggish at the end of the ride, and I just looked and saw my throttle cable is broken. So I think I'm gonna order up a stronger aftermarket one from jet maniac. Hopefully be on the water again this weekend.

My buddy likes the stunt hull a lot. I'd even say that its easier to ride than my bob, but I only rode it for a few minutes. But it seems to handle really nice. Pole is a little short for me tho. His ski ran great too
