Gen2 BOB Hull - A Proven Surf-Capable Hull

For all the 'haters' out there saying that the BOB would be a terrible surf hull, or isn't capable of performing well in the surf, well... 14 year old Christian Young just proved all of you wrong! Not only did Chrisitian take 2nd place in Amateur Freeride at the Grayland open, but over the weekend, he also took 1st place at the Blowsion Surf Slam, throwing down huge backflips, 360s, barrel rolls (rolling both ways!) and more.

The Gen2 BOB Hull may have been designed as a purpose built flat water freestyle hull, but Christian proved that it's capable of more than just flat water, by showing us what it can do in some of the toughest ocean conditions.

Day 1 & Day 2 on his new Gen2 BOB Hull:

Congratulations to Christian Young on bringing home the gold!!

I'm sure his light weight adds to that.

I felt the gen 2 rides wayyyy better than the gen 1 but: I would not want to ride one in messy surf all the time. It is tiring and takes a lot of rider input to keep it upright if you weigh more than 115.

That surf was super clean. A wave every 100 yards is not demanding surf. I could shut my ski off between waves and restart before worrying.

Not hating here, just saying: It is a purpose built ski that does what it was built for well. It is not the best surfboat out there.
Anything light and short will be great for someone who weighs 115 pounds.

congrats to him on 1st place though!!

That surf was anything but super clean. It was a big mess. With double overhead faces 20ft apart at times, plus wind chop

He rides with some of the best and has a great support group. You are part of that.Congradulations and thanks for helping him acheive this success.Christian will continue to improve.Carving on the face of the wave for riders weighing 180 and up is not where this ski shines.Keep working at the design.

Just a little 701 with a pipe and head.

congrats to him on 2nd place though!!

It's definitely a flat water built hull, but this goes to prove that the BOB shouldn't be automatically removed from the list of aftermarket hulls that are surf capable. We never claimed it to be the best surf boat, because we know what it was built for.

And I think you mean 1st place, not 2nd..

I think Taylor Curtis also showed this weekend how the small flatwater hulls can be used to change the game of whats possible in the surf. im super proud of my lil buddy christian and how good he is as a young rider. he kicks my ass most days lol

dont be confused, all skis could be considered "surf capable" keep in mind the skill and weight of the rider. throw someone bigger and not experienced in surf out there and youll see a different picture. not to take away from the hull was designed for its nice, just think twice as building a surf boat out of it. sorry dk haha

im a fat :):):):) right now at 190 and i have alot of fun on christians ski. its a super fun ski and i enjoy surfing it. it flips fast forsure and spins superfast too. i can slash it and put it in critical points but sometimes it just falls over like a fx1 on me..... its weird.

pretty much every time we ride i ask christian if i can ride it.
