If you have never had girdle head on your motor, you will probably have to tap out your case threads to remove loctite used by Yamaha. This will take some time. And you still may need to run two washers under the acorns. Do not bottom out the acorn nuts, have to bring your ocd game on this step.
Related to this, how does one tap out the case holes without just dropping all the removed loctite/material down the hole? Some of those holes continue down into the case cavity, don’t they?
I run a girdled head without the girdle kit just for that reason. The non-girdled has an advantage beyond cost. Removing the head releases the pressure off the cylinder and it is possible to develop a base gasket leak. It's also faster and easier to install the first time. It is possible to run the girdled head without the girdled kit if you want the fast install for the weekend and don't mind being made fun of.
I have a girdled head.
How so?[/QUOTE][QUOTE="Quinc, I would get a @holeshot head. His girdle kit is significantly better then ada.

^^then you would not have a "girdle" adding to the torsional and shear strength of the cylinder.
