So just got my first go pro yesterday and going out Saturday. Want to film everyone and was wondering what the best set up is for that on the helmet. Please post pics and details of how you secure yours and opinions to get the best angles.

Thanks,
Shane

Alot of people mount theres up on top of there helmets, I am tried that and dont really like it, Im not 7 feet tall so looking at my video as if I was looks goofy. plus I like to here the beeps to know what I am doing with the cam or even see the front screen. Heres the two that I have used the most.

I really liked this spot because it gives you a really good view of everyone else. always looking right where you are and I could flip it up to see the front screen. Big issue though is that it pulls down the front of your helmet over you eyes so you are constantly pushing it back up.

Here is my new setup, I have used it twice and love it. Perfect view angle, close enough to here the camera beeps, and doesnt pull my helmet down at all. I cant even hardly tell its there. it looks like it is kinda in your face but you dont even see it without looking way up. Also make sure you have some sort of lanyard to catch it if it falls off. you can see I have a stainless one running off it.
I left the other mount on since Im still trying this that way if the glue doesnt hold and it falls, I will just stick it on the other mount (mechanically attached) and keep riding.

I really like that mount on the front of your helmet. Is that the chest mount and you just cut off the chest part? Or is there a special one you buy for that? and what about when you edit the video won't it be upside down?

it is the head band mount that comes with the gopro and I just took the straps off.
that is the way I didnt like it because it pulls the front of your helmet down once the padding getts wet.
No there is a setting on all the gopros to film right side up or upside down. Mine is set to always film upside down

you dont have any more chance of loosing it off you visor as you do off the top of your helmet. heck if anything you have more chance or it hitting something when it is way up there. I explained a couple of reasons why I do and dont like it in curtain areas.
Profound dynamics is definitly some good tuff stuff. If you got the money, his lanyard and a floaty is a good way to go. On the other hand if you are a broke a$$ like me may stainless lanyard the loops in and through the helmet air vents cost me $1.75 and about 15min and it is tested to about 75lbs (a whole lot more then a gopros drop weight from 4 inches)
None of these are bad ideas so you really just got to try different things out and see what you like the best

thank you for all the input i think that i am going to use the head mount and epoxy it to the helmet and zip tie it just to be safe along with the lanyard. Going to try that first. I am also trying to take of my visor since it has yet to break off, but can't get the screws out so i am going to just cut it off and mount above as well. Now when having it mounted on the front of the helmet do you angle it at all?

See that is one of the things that I like about both the places I mounted mine. the back of the cam sits against the helmet so it is always at the perfect angle. I make sure as I mounting it I just temporally mount it,put the helmet on, and walk around my house to see how the video looks, make changes, try again. though with it on the top of the helmet I think you will probably have to just find the right angle and sinch it down real good.

thanks steve i saw yours before! do you have video that i can see from that angle?

No, nothing worth putting on youtube yet. I recently got it and the season hadn't really started yet, just a few trial runs which I was happy with both the mounts/locations.

Once I have some decent footage of my crew I will put a video out there.
