Other Gopro alternatives?

Looking at getting another camera and hoping there is something better than Gopro....because mine is now at the bottom of the lake. I originally owned the Gopro Hero Wide and sold it for the Gopro HD. Both were good cameras and I caught some decent footage but I was never truly happy with the videos. Jetskiing isn't too bad but mountain biking is absolutely awful if you're on any kind of real mt bike trail (aka not smooth)! I've tried helmet, handlebar, seatpost, and frame mounting and all 4 produce some of the most vibration intensive videos I've ever seen in my life and I run a full suspension bike. It also doesn't really help that as soon as you start moving, the video starts tearing the scenery around you making that nice wide angle lens useless.

i was kinda in the same boat with the gopro, now using a contour gps and pretty happy with it.really cool to watch map gps and speed while playing back vid's, also never had an issue with the waterproof case, and it floats as well.. still some shake but not that bad and to be expected when used in harsh enviroment.. heres a clip taken with it..(view in 720p) http://youtu.be/MYOt435_U40

Here are some of the cameras I've managed to find that are on the same playing field... Apparently there are quite a lot but not a single one boasts anything about stabilization which in my mind is the MOST important thing and WAY more important than resolution.

ContourROAM
- Waterproof to 3 feet as is (all other Contours need the extra waterproof case) http://www.amazon.com/Contour-1600-...F8&qid=1340889400&sr=8-1&keywords=contourroam
ContourHD - Seems like the ROAM without the waterproof casing and allows up to 60fps in 720p http://www.amazon.com/Contour-1600-ContourROAM-Hands-free-Camcorder/dp/B005GLFSYQ/dp/B002QGSYZ4
ContourGPS - Has the cool GPS feature that tracks speed, direction, altitude, and can plot your trip on a map. Would be really cool on a mountain bike. http://www.amazon.com/Contour-1600-ContourROAM-Hands-free-Camcorder/dp/B005GLFSYQ/dp/dp/B00426DQ2W/
Contour Plus - Double the price and I don't really understand the advantages... http://www.amazon.com/Contour-1500-Plus-Camera/dp/tech-data/B004Z75V08/ref=de_a_smtd

Gopro Hero2 - The mainstream camera which has tons of mounts, floats, security features. Has 120fps mode if you want slow motion...and assuming you have the video editing software to take advantage of it. My biggest complaint is the way my videos look compared to the way the GoPro promo videos look....nothing alike! http://www.amazon.com/GoPro-HD-HERO...F8&qid=1340890359&sr=1-2&keywords=gopro+hero2

Drift Innovation HD170 - Has an LCD screen to review your shots and a wrist mount remote for easy start/stop. http://www.amazon.com/Drift-Innovat...qid=1340891034&sr=1-13&keywords=helmet+camera

Coleman CSXSWP - By far one of the cheapest HD cameras but limited reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-CSXSW...qid=1340891465&sr=1-49&keywords=helmet+camera

Oregon Scientific ATC 9K - Has a G sensor for acceleration and an LCD screen. http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scient...qid=1340891621&sr=1-60&keywords=helmet+camera

Midland XTC-300VP4 - http://www.amazon.com/Midland-XTC-3...qid=1340891621&sr=1-65&keywords=helmet+camera

BulletHD - Small and looks good but limited reviews. http://www.amazon.com/BulletHD-Wate...qid=1340892087&sr=1-90&keywords=helmet+camera

Swann Freestyle 1080p - http://www.amazon.com/Swann-Freesty...id=1340892424&sr=1-129&keywords=helmet+camera

Shark HD - http://www.amazon.com/shark-shkhd10...id=1340892715&sr=1-138&keywords=helmet+camera

Crocolis HD - Looks like Shark HD and brags about stability but don't know for sure. http://www.amazon.com/Crocolis-HD-E...id=1340892846&sr=1-151&keywords=helmet+camera

Delkin WingmanHD - http://www.amazon.com/Delkin-Wingma...id=1340893015&sr=1-226&keywords=helmet+camera

Intova Sports Pro HD - The scuba divers all seem to love this camera. http://www.amazon.com/Intova-Waterp...id=1340893078&sr=1-261&keywords=helmet+camera

Replay XD 01-RPXD1080-CS HD - http://www.amazon.com/Replay-XD-01-...id=1340893142&sr=1-283&keywords=helmet+camera

There are more but I quit looking at this point...

I have the GoPro HD. I found that I like the vids better when I keep it on one of the lower resolution settings. And IMO the chest mount works best for mountain biking. Much more interesting for the viewer when you can see part of the bike.

If you pick up a lanyard for your gopro you won't ever have to worry about loosing it. I run a HD hero 2 and think the quality is awesome.

Never used it with mountain biking nor have I really tried any of the alternatives. I went with the gopro because its leading in the industry.

Yeah I always ran a lanyard when I had the camera on my jetski helmet. I had this camera mounted to a slalom ski to critique my form and didn't really know of a good way to use a lanyard. It actually came unclipped which I would've never thought was possible since I usually bash my fingers trying to get those things out.

As sad as it sounds, I'm actually thinking about not replacing the camera completely because I'm always super excited to see and share the gopro videos and have always been super depressed when I actually see them and only share them when people ask for them. The only videos that have turned out decent were waterskiing videos. When biking the video jumps around too much and jetskiing makes the waves and chop difficult to see unless they are really clean.

That's what I'm looking for. Do you have any videos you could link? The only videos I can find are promo videos so I'm skeptical since GoPro's promo videos look like they were taken with a $30k camera and edited even further with very expensive video software. GoPro's promo video is complete BS because no video I ever recorded looks anything like that.
