Gopro and movie maker problem HELP!

Finally got my gopro back after it took a swim in Daytona. Im trying to import video from my computer to the windows movie maker and when i try to import video from the document box the videos do not come up. When i select the "Files of type" box and drop down to all files the videos come up, but when i click on them a error message says

The file E:\DCIM\100MEDIA\GOPR0001.MP4 is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker.

Can any one help? im stuck.

I dont think movie maker recognizes mp4's, pretty sure you will either have to convert the files before importing them to movie maker or use a different editing program like pinnacle or something.

I was really hoping to throw some clips together tonight. I figured it was the mp4 file. How do i convert movie files? I want a new video editing program. Is pinnacle a good program? How much is it?

Thanks
Chris

I like pinnacle, not sure how much it is though. I got mine free with a dazzle program that I bought. the dazzle device was 125 though, but it lets me rip anything you can plug into it onto the computer.

Do a google search for free video converter. Or mp4 to wma then you will be able to do it on movie maker

Alright i downloaded 3 converters and no dice. Im sure some one else went through this mess. Do all gopro hd 's record mp4's in default mode? Thanks for the help guiness.

you should just be able to drag the file into the box, select the output file type, select the target folder then click convert. Its pretty simple. Sorry it didnt work for you.

First - Can you double click on the file and just play it?

If it doesn't play:
You could try installing Apple's Quicktime:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
That should add an mp4 codec (don't ask, it's technical) that might help with mp4. DON'T install iTunes (the check box at the bottom) unless you want a bunch extra crap that you probably don't want.

Don't go installing a bunch of random crap you find on the internet or you might get cooties.

It plays fine on quick time. I just need to convert it from a mp4 to wma to make video's in windows movie maker.
