For one of my classes this semester me and my team are to design and produce a product, we decided to make a mountable GoPro gimble that to stabilizes itself as a normal gimble such as those attached to a drone would, only it will not have any sort of electronics making it more compact, lighter and mountable to anything, the idea is that the camera uses its own weight to balance itself and remain level with the horizon, it definitely wont be quite as stable as an electronic one but for something cheap that can mount on the front of a ski it should be a pretty awesome perspective.
For this part of the class we had to write up a short questionnaire and have at least 10 people give their feedback, I have attached the questions below to the thread, simply copy it and repost it as a comment with your answer filled in, I really only need 10 responses but the more the merrier! if this actually works out well I am considering producing and selling them.

For each of the following gyro mount features, please indicate on a scale of 1 to 3 how important the feature is to you. Please use the following Scale:

1. Feature is not needed.

2. Feature is nice to have.

3. Feature is critical.

____ The mount does not require batteries.

____ The mount is compatible with any GoPro sticky mount.

____ The mount provides Dual Axis Stabilization.

____ The mount comes with replacement bearing set.

____ The mount accommodates many different mounting positions. (Sideways, Upside-down, Angles)

____ The mount has easy availability to replacement parts.

____ The mount remains level at all times.

____ The mount is comprised of lightweight material to help with portability.

____ The mount is made with the most durable and rugged material.

Concerns with that would be wind speed effecting the camera positioning, water impact, and g-forces. Love the concept, but a solid mount would produce a better video clip imo. I will answer based on use on a stand up in saltwater.

Still have to work that stuff out, we have the basic idea setup as of now, my other team mate would like to be able to mount it lower on the door of his race car and remain stable

Honestly just waterproof a real gimbal and you'd have my interest. The "non-electric" gimbal is not something new and you aren't going to invent something that somehow takes away all the forces of physics. Good luck.

sorry to burst your bubble, but those gimbles heavily rely on servo motors. There is no way you're gonna mechanically balance a camera that weighs a 1/4 lb within a little gyro mount.

maybe some inspiration from naysayers saying it cant be done fuels your fire, but even if you guys pull it off it will be primitive at best.

Like I said I don't expect it to be nearly as fine tuned as the electronic ones, and we have talked about adding some small weights if necessary, take your thumb and index finger and hold each side of your phone at the very top, not gripping it hard, but enough it doesn't fall, move your hand around tilting it forward and back, your phone wants to stay facing forward, that's basically what we're trying to accomplish, the same idea has already been used for a hand held type gimble that works surprisingly well but nothing that's mountable like the gopro itself is
