Super Jet Got my first ski, that i know nothing about

hey everyone i recently picked up a 90 superjet from my stepdad who wasnt using it ne more (hadn't in over 10 years). The superjet has a full factory pipe bored .5 over (wiseco piston kit), milled head has a skat trak stainless steel imp (9/17 degree) (what ever that means), water dynamics skate plate, water dynamics intake. this superjet is really clean its all original on the outside and has been garaged its whole life, it seems to be really fast compared to other skis on the water. My question is what is this beast good for i doesnt seem to want to jump out of the water ( I'm not ruling out user error), but goes reallly fast in a straight line when my stupid lil local lake isnt chopped out. Ive taken it out about 5 times now and been enjoying it more and more. please dont flame me for my lack of knowledge still learning all the terms.

thats a fun setup, take it to the surf for a real thrill
If you want it to jump, I recommend a 9/15 hooker for your setup
call Dave at Impros, he will set you up right!
there are also water adjustment screws on the pipe
that can be adjusted to get more bottom end
use the advanced search, and if that doesnt work try google : )

90-93 Superjets had 650cc engines. Just not powerful enough to "jump out of the water". It had some mods done to it and is likely a fun ski. Try to enjoy it the way it is. Modifying it further is just too expensive. Some day when you become very proficient riding it you might feel you have outgrown it and get something more powerful. Just be forewarned: the nice free style skis you might see on this site can cost you 20K+ to put together.

Ya I think im going to leave it the way it is, it is fast enough for me right now i just seem to be having probs cutting corners it might be due to me trying too much for skill right now but its hard to practice anything where I ride, you can only turn left around a set of bouys and if u are caught doing anything else they will kick you out for the day very sad. I rode an all stock sx 650 and was very sad at the lack of power so i know i have a pretty legit setup for the price i paid.

after they write a nice ticket they will remove u from the lake ( we renamed the lake "lake left turn") I live abut 40 min from the beach so I was thinking of taking it out there or possibly havasu but thats 3 hrs away. the ski has been sitting for bout 10 years now is there ne maintenance I should do to it? I own dirtbikes so im not mechanically retarded

the SN i bought in 2008 and RN in 2010, both had been sitting up a while. even thought you've put a few hours on it, it wouldn't hurt to check the fuel system. fuel lines may be brittle or hard, pinch/squeeze them every couple of inches to check. i'd drain the fuel tank, replace the external fuel filter and rebuild or at least take apart the carb to check the internal fuel filter. grease the midshaft coupler and you're set for the summer... welcome to the X !

Its all about the surf!

Yes Puddingstone is a poor excuse for a lake. Not that the lake is so bad, just the crazy rules that the authorities fully enforce. There are other lakes a little further away with less strict riding rules like Perris and Elsinore. You can also ride the back channel at Canyon lake which has no rules (if you can find it). If you can drag yourself out of bed early enough, and your willing to make the drive, theres a group of guys who all ride the surf here in Oceanside at 7am in the mornings. The area we ride in Oceanside (which is actually on the Camp Pendleton Marine base) also has pretty much no rules. As far as the ski not turning, I’m sure its more operator error, don’t worry everyone goes through that when they are learning. Give it some time you’ll get the hang of it quickly. BTW welcome to the X.
