got my flywheel back from group k

I tried contacting jr magoos several times in a two week period. I left messages and by the time I got a response, I had already sent it to group k. I took before and after pictures. I figured they would take off more, but at least it will be reliable. Total was $79.00 + shipping

Did you happen to weigh it before and after? If not, what is the weight of it now? I chucked mine up in a lathe and did the same thing last year. I can't believe they charge 79 bucks for something that takes about 15 minutes.

I'm not sure about the weight before or after, I don't have a scale that accurate. They were supposed to take off .5lbs. The front face and side were both machined.

I've read too many horror stories about aluminum flywheels breaking apart and taking out the stator electronics. I'd rather have the reliability over a little quicker throttle response. My ski is a ticking timebomb the way it is

It does not matter if it only takes 15 minutes, you are paying for the equipment to modify it, the labor to set it up, the knowledge for it to be done right............. I am sure Group K did a good job, I had protec do one for me a few years back charged about the same........

Its a good deal. Group K does nice work on flywheels. They will be perfectly reliable too. I have seen paul's work on em too. He also does a great job.

Pro Tec charges $55 + shipping, like $8.00 for me. They have done 2 of mine. One of the best bang for the buck mods, and it's reliable!!! You should really enjoy this simple mod. For your $$ I can't think of another mod that will yield as noticable a difference for only $60. Mabey a pump cone?

I am lucky to have a full machine shop at my job. We have a shaft balancer that I used. It was amazing how bad it was when I took it off. It was also somewhat warped. Probably from removing it a couple times with the puller.

Sorry guys to sound like I was knocking group K. I know everyone has to make a living. It's just my opinion that they maybe trying to make a killing. I just think it should be more like 25 bucks instead of 79. Maybe I am missing something. Or should go into business. $25 times four per hour = $100 per hour. Wish I made that kind of money.

I totally agree Rob... that is way too expensive for what is done...

I got my cylinders bored by a professional machine shop for 25$ (per hole)....and he even chamfered the edges of the ports

Also, I got my cases bored for 20$...

these things are not that expensive to do... in my experience

Hell, Jr. Magoo bores a nozzle for 25$... that is probably more work than drilling some holes in a freaking flywheel

I dont think that's a outrageous price...

Hell I once did a quick fiberglass repair on a hot tub for a Lawyer. When I was finished with the job(45 minutes) he asked "How much do I owe you?". I said "100 bucks", he said "$100 dollars?!?!, I'm a lawyer and I get $100 dollars an hour!". I said " Yeah, thats what I used to get when I was a Lawyer"....

The flywheels do not have holes drilled in em. They take off some of the circumference of the flywheel on the out side. They also have to go around the magnets. It just takes a little time.

in the end a 100 bucks an hour is about right, that shop has to pay for alot of stuff that has nothing to do with lighting a flywheel, its easy to do things cheap when you do it for fun but when you got a buisness to run you got to keep the doors open. I have to charge about 100 bucks an hour whem im doing a time and materials type job.

I had a lightened one on a 650SX back in the early 90's. It had like 6 big holes around the face and like 3/16" holes drilled all around the ring gear! It work flawlessly for quite a few years. I got it from a friend that raced. Prolly homeade I assume..

$19 for the time on the lathe + $60 for knowing where and how much to take it off without it blowing up on you.
