Hand truck as beach cart?

13 x 4 inch tires. I was thinking: lay it on it's back, cut off the toe plate, add some 2x4's to the rails to act as bunks and voila. Are the tires too narrow to work in the sand? Harbor freight has 6" wide tires for $25 each.

Even if it doesn't work as a beach cart, it certainly is a good way for moving your ski around the shop, etc.

since it would probably be short, you could cut the handle end part off, slide some smaller O.D. tubes inside it and weld em up. Then you could make it as long as you want.

I've been hunting for an old alum dock or pool ladder to make into a beach cart. They show up on eBay sometimes for abou $160 shipped or so.
Something like this would be so easy to turn into a nice beach cart.

$175 or $150 each, something like that. Work awesome in shop and on beach. Big enough for an SXR, but not for any sitdown.

Kawi stopped making them, but Justin bought all he could find and still has some left.

I have a solid one made of like 3" pvc, it must have taken some kind of wizard plumber to make it, I know I wouldnt be able to do it. It has large lawn tractor tires, and works great. Maybe you could build one similar, I will post up some pics!

I lucked out and have a friend that weilds and we made one for my ZXI and works perfect for our x-2, 2-zxi's , sea-dud, and STX, we had to make the handle adjsutable to accomdate all the different skis we have I also put 1 3/4 fire hose on the runners so not to scratch the skis, it had worked great for us

we used golf cart wheels they run over soft and hard packed sand like a dream

Justin can be tough to reach, but he does have the totes and he is a great guy, just slow to return calls. Find out when he is working and make them page him. If still unsuccessful, ask for his dad :smile:

Yes, work great on sand, I launch from the beach.

The only downside is that they have powdercoated steel frames so their propensity for rusting in salt water environments needs to be considered. At the price, though, you can go through a few before hitting the cost of a bigfoot.

I have 4 of those, plus three taller metal stands we welded up, plus one folding stand. None are empty either ;-)

i like the knobbys, but they do dig into the wet sand a little bit and makes it hard to get moving......

but at least they LOOK cool...

Something like this would be so easy to turn into a nice beach cart.

That is exactly like the ladder I used to make my cart.
I picked it up at a place that builds docks, it was in a scrap pile.
Ended up giving the guy $20 for it.
